The 3DS is going XL on the same day new Super Mario Bros. 2 comes out...  Makes me extra pissed I paid $250 for the little 3Ds at launch when the XL is only going to be $200.  I immediately called Nintendo to verify that our DsiWare and e-shop stuff could be transferred.  Check out the video:

This is exactly why I don't have any modern consoles. It's not even just Nintendo, it's everyone and they get away with it because people always want the next best thing. What ever happened to just being happy with what you have?

Also, it's funny how people bitch and complain about price when, you could have waited and price would have went down as time went on, you didn't have to buy it right then and there when it came out, but you did, it was your decision so you're as much to blame as the company that sold it to you.

Now this is not me pointing at you mariocaseman, this is me pointing at people in general nowadays.

It's your money so you can't tell these people what to do with it, but really simply take your loss, sell last years model, or keep last years model be happy with what you have cause some people don't have it, hell why not give it to them and stop bitching about something you bought into in the first place. The companys obviously have done their jobs, and that's why they make money.

I personally bought mine for $79 brand new when it first came out! Can't wait for the XL, that's a HUGE b*tch!

Sweet!  I'm not waiting this time around like I did with the DSi XL.  Those things are too damned pricey on eBay and I still want one pretty badly.

Good thing I only paid about 60 bucks for my 3DS ;D

I'm actually pretty excited about this. I knew they'd do this going in... I mean the form factor of the 3DS, particularly the edges was a step back from DS Lite/DSi, so it seemed inevitable that they would release a redesign. And I too missed out on DSi XL. I also really like the matte finish, which is something I don't like about my current 3DS with all the fingerprints and scratches showing easily. DS Lite/DSi was my favorite handheld for a long time so this should be great!

I'm actually glad they skipped over a "3DS Lite" and went straight for the XL approach. I'm finding more and more that I don't really take my 3DS out and about with me like I did with my GBA SP in high school, so I'd almost prefer a bigger system.

Plus I think of handhelds like phones - I don't mind upgrading every year or two. Now consoles on the other hand, I hate it when there's a revision soon after the original.

And Nintendo continues to bore me to death. Too bad Sony dropped the ball on the PSP and the Vita, Nintendo has really been disappointing since, oh, 1996 or so.

Sony dropped the ball on the PS3 -- way overpriced at release (still is in my opinion), then took out the backwards compatibility, then changed the price, then slimmed it down, then made new GB sizes, then the PSN crash that lasted a month....  All that aside the games for it suck and fewer PS3 consoles have been sold this generation, leaving it beat by both Wii and 360.

Now come on, there are some good PS3 games, don't be too hard on the system.

I agree for the most part, but to each their own. I don't think anyone's been particularly exciting since Sixth Generation consoles. How many times has Infinity Ward made the same damn Call of Duty game, and how many franchises do the same damn thing? They're coming out with another one soon too, god help us all... I haven't bought a game in the past couple months that was made more recently than six years ago. Next gen will hopefully change things up and finally top 6th gen, because it hasn't happened yet...

+1. The PS2 was a great system, and the PS3 is an overpriced graphics card in a massive box. This is why I use my PC for my "HD" gaming, and use the Wii and Xbox 360 for their much stronger console/platform gaming experiences.

Now come on, there are some good PS3 games, don't be too hard on the system.

Any exclusive titles that make it worth the high purchase price? I feel like most of the games that I would enjoy on PS3 are cross platform anyways. If you're judging just by high quality exclusive titles, both Microsoft and Nintendo have it beat by a mile.

Then again, if there's that ONE game you absolutely need to have and it's only on PS3, that would justify the purchase, but otherwise the other options are much stronger, and the sales figures show that. All of this is IMHO by the way, just thinking out loud.
I'm looking for vol. 2, 4, and 5 of the Orchestral Game Music Concert CDs. I'll pay well if it's authentic and doesn't skip. :)

The ps3 is pricey , still, but there are definitely some 1st party games that can make it worth the purchase.

Uncharted, mainly Uncharted 2, fantastic game
Ratchet and Clank
God of War , 3 was great but I more so enjoyed the HD collection of the PSP ports
Infamous - amazing game
Demon Souls (yes, there is a PC port but started here)
Super Stardust HD

If you are an RPG fan, the amount and calibur or titles on PS3 only > everything else.
Valkyria Chronicles
Resonance of Fate
Atelier series

Im not huge on shooters but Killzone and Resistance are both highly rated
and of course, Little Big Planet, mindless self indulgence.

Oh don't get me wrong, Sony has been disappointing for a while. I've got a launch 60GB PS3 with CFW 3.55, never go online, and use it to play PS1 and PS2 games. I'm not much into the current generation. But PS1 and PS2 were legendary systems. N64 had some good games, but the controller was retarded. Gamecube, no games. Wii, motion controls (the controls actually regressed...less buttons and they expect you to shake the stupid thing where you could have just pressed X or Y). GBC, portable NES. GBA, portable SNES with less but less buttons (and a terrible design, even the SP). DS, portable SNES with 2 screens. 3DS, portable N64 without a C stick. Are we sensing a pattern here?

The same could be said about PSP and Vita being portable PS1 and PS2s. Just because they have similar capabilities, doesn't mean they are just portable versions of those systems. They do have some ports, but there are A LOT more original games, many of which you couldn't find on the consoles. Also the DS was more comparable to the N64, hence why a launch title was Super Mario 64 DS - the N64 game with changes and enhancements, including graphically. Yet a lot of the stand-out DS games weren't N64-quality. Graphical capabilities aren't what makes a system good.

To each his own, I guess... :-\

On-topic, I see there are some differences, including a better viewing angle on the XL. http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=180086

Give me a Zelda edition 3DS XL Ninty! They've been doing that with just about every handheld they've produced lately, so my hopes are high!
