Just be careful though, I checked it against a couple of other images online and a lot of that "dust" is actually detail that's in the original painting. Same goes for the scratches, a lot of those are thick brushwork. Particularly the more vertical ones.

Absolutely man, I am just making decisions over which parts of the "distortion" or "marks" appears to be natural or potentially scratches and what not.

So I am generally taking out the harsh looking marks and stuff but preserving the detail in those areas where it is clearly part of the detail left by the painting technique.

I am having the same issue with the Ultima II cover I am making at the moment as well, where it is/was a painting and so having to make decisions over what to smooth over and what to preserve as part of the original texture of the image.

Thank god for clone stamp!! lol, this is always what takes me so long as I go every pixel of the front images at 200% zoom, making decisions over what needs to be smoothed out and what is part of the original image.

Ill post it in a bit and see what we think..........who knows, I might go too far here and clean TOO much!  ;D

Right, so have gone over and removed/smoothed anything I see as being un-natural and generally done it as I would any other from scratch.

See what you guys think, I may have removed too much as far as you guys are concerned but perhaps it is a happy medium.

If this is deemed as the optimal version and makes the overall cover now up to standards then I am fine for it be credited to Azarkhel of course, up to you guys.

Watch out on a front like this. It was handdrawn and in this case it should look NOT smooth and there should be pencil strips. The front I posted needs some more cleaning as I did this pretty fast but not much more filtering and smoothing. That front shouldn't be smooth and uniform. Otherwise the artist will rotate in his grave.

LOL, well, I did look at the one your posted and thought it looked way too grainy so would have been rejected on the basis of not being smooth enough!  ;D

I guess there is a happy medium somewhere between Azarkehl's "over smooth", my "medium smooth" and the one you posted as for me "not smooth enough" ha ha.
