I saw a couple threads on this and decided I'd give it a shot since I've been downloading like a madman here lately.  I genuinely suck at photoshop, but am rather please with how this turned out.  I was hoping somone might be able to help me with getting a logo for the front and maybe a bigger and better one for the spine.  I'm not hoping to make this a standard, but considering I spent some time on it, I'd like to at least try finishing it.

So this would be the result.  I sorta shrank that bar at the bottom so it would look better than the one in proportion to actual case.  Of course, I could remove it too.  The thing I'd really like help with is getting a proper logo for the spine and front.  I don't have any boxes (yet) and haven't had much help online.  I just got tired of looking for a decent image, so I just settled on something from wikipedia for the spine.  I hope the colors are close, too.  It was also fairly difficult to find cover art, especially anything large  So I just used this image.

I guess that's from the Toys R Us rerelease or something?  Anyway, can anyone help me a out on this?
Here's the PSD file.

Thanks and let me know what you think.

The only problem I could see you running into is that there were I think at least three different box art arrangements for Game Gear

(courtesy of the Video Game Museum)

So choosing which one will be tough

I obviously can't speak for everyone, but I just liked that last one best so I went for it.  Besides, I'm not looking to make a standard, just need a little photoshop help  :)
Aside from that, the tab on the left portion of the cover goes along with the standard GB(C), GBA, and DS covers.

Here's my attempt at expanding on your idea - but allowing for everyone's tastes

Game Gear Original

Game Gear Black

Game Gear Purple

  • ...and that's the bottom line
I'd be all for the first one. Has this very stylish retro look which reminds me of the good ol' times when me and my Game Gear chewed through countless batteries :D

The second one is also nice. Looks similar to the GB/GBA cover template(s) we have. Looks quite elegant.

The third one would be great for people using Hexxxer's Genesis template as it uses the same design with a different color.

So all three are great but the first one is by far my favourite.

I like the first and second template best!

The last one is a little bit too "violetish" for my taste.... ;D

yay, someones finally doing game gear cases! i personally like the second one the best, but thats primarily because black is my favorite color, but they all look good

edit: and in response to your post in the atari lynx thread, the gamegear games will fit in a ds case, just not as well.  i think theres a picture in a thread somewhere with pictures of how i fit them.

Awesome stuff!  Thanks so much!  I hope to try stumbling through a few covers tomorrow.
You wouldn't be able to post the templates, would you?  I can host them if that's an issue.
Thanks again!

Just got to make some final tweaks to the template (layer order, that kind of thing.) I should have the template up by tonight.

Thanks a bundle!  Sorry for the late reply, but it's been kinda hectic lately.

So, I tried playing around a bit, and what do you think of these as the first 2 in the game gear section?  I won't upload em if anyone thinks they could be improved upon, so I'd really like to hear some opinions.  Remember, I suck at PS, so I won't mind  ;D

I got a sealed Sonic 2 for this actually, lol!  It was pretty cheap, so no worries.  That text on the bck is the same as the original.  To give you an idea of how lazy I am, I spent 2 hours reinstalling the scanner software so I could just scan it as a document rather than type it out myself, lol!  As to why that took two hours... HP's downloadable installer was corrupted.  Also used the black spine as well.  Turns out that not only the packaging had it, but the game title is easier to read on a black background.  Thanks again for the template, Lumberjack!

As to the Sonic Adventure pics, I just wanted a couple good shots of Sonic and Tails.  I suppose it could take away from the whole retro look, but I'd rather hear a second opinion first.  In the meantime, I'll go looking for some older shots of them.

I actually made a TINY couple adjustments to the alignment of the screenshots and the "1 Player" mark already.  Any thoughts?

I'll take that as a "yes" for the retro look :D

How's this?  I feel really good about the new shot.  I learned a few new ways of touching up!

Thanks for the links, too!
