Hey, what's up everyone? Just a quick question regarding an auction I was thinking about putting up on Ebay soon:

Yesterday while me and my wife were out and about, I decided to stop by one of our local Goodwill stores and happened across a Sega Genesis (Model 02), all the hook-ups, a controller, and 14 games for $30. I saw some really good games on top and decided to go ahead and pick it up. A long time ago I bought a Genesis from a guy who modded it to include an S-Video port, so I really have no use for the console itself, and aside from around 6-7 really good games I decided to keep, I already own the rest.

I noticed Sega Genesis console lots aren't exactly going for much right now, and I'm not expecting to make my money back, but I'd like to just get what I can for it.

Sega Genesis
2 x Contollers
AC Adapter, RF Switch

Awesome Possum (Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt)
Batman Forever (w/ Manual)
Earthworm Jim (w/ Manual)
Disney's Aladdin (w/ Manual)
Frogger (w/ Manual)
Justice League Task Force (w/ case & manual)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (w/ Manual)
Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure
Toy Story (w/ Manual)
Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures
Rocket Knight Adventure
Wheel of Fortune
...And a hand full of sports games I don't really care to hold onto (8-9, I think, a few with cases)
I know I have a spare Sonic & Knuckles laying around somewhere too.

My question is, I also happened across a Sega Saturn and a box full of 10 or so games (Most of which I didn't own) for $5 at a yard sale a few months back which I've basically had on the back burner for awhile planning to eventually sell it. I was going to sell the Saturn, hookups, a contoller, Virtual Fighter 2, Daytona USA, Virtual Cop, and Herc's Adventure as a small lot, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off to sell both lots together as one large lot instead?

I know the videogame market isn't exactly... booming right now as far as Ebay goes aside from certain games/systems, but I'd die a little inside to see both of them end up going for like...$5 or something haha. All that being said, I'm just curious as to what you guys would do?

I assume these are US versions

Actually I would not mind owning US Genesis 2 (PAL and JAP I already have) and US Saturn, and more games for my collection is always nice.

So either sell me them directly (PM me reasonable offer) or put them up in one lot and link here, and I just might buy them when my next paycheck arrives.

Actually, I don't see any reason why you should be able to at least get your money back on the Genesis lot.  I'd say the lot is worth right around the $40-$50 range (assuming everything works properly and is in at least good cosmetic condition).  I've been following Genesis lots closely for a while, looking for a model one system that I could actually afford given my somewhat measley budget right now.  I've also bought many a lot which I've sold parts from before (a couple times to Mr. Arseen, whom I can vouche for as a totally awesome buyer).  You got a couple of really good games in the lot that tend to fetch higher price points on their own than the others (Rocket Knight Adventures & Earthworm Jim).  Aladdin, Awesome Possum, and Toy Story are all pretty great games too.  They don't tend to sell for a great deal seperately, but they certainly make attractive addiitons to any lot.  So, even without the sports games and Sonic & Knuckles tossed in, I do think you shouldn't have any issue getting your money back on the lot.  If you're not able ot work out a deal with someone on this forum and decide to slap it up on eBay, be sure to clean the things up a bit and take good pictures before you list.  I know that seems obvious, but it's been my experience that a surprising number of good lots have troubles selling based solely on the fact that the items were caked in dust or poorly photographed.  I've bought a couple such lots myself over the years and after a little clean-up and new pics end up selling them for more than I paid (plus being able to add a piece or two to my own collection - I very rarely buy lots for pure profit potential).  Presentation can go a long way to the success of any sale, online or off.

As far as the Saturn goes.  I don't know a whole lot about them, so I can't reall speak on how much they're worth.

Thanks for the response Quazi, I was actually thinking around those numbers myself, but I was assuming with the continuing price drops on Ebay, maybe they had went down a bit.

Either way Arseen, my friend, I'll send you a PM later this evening. Thanks for the reply!  ;)

No problem.  Happy to help where and when I can.

BTW:  I looked into the Sega Saturn lot a bit, mainly because I like to learn about stuff I don't know, in case I bump into one myself.  The Saturns don't seem to be as popular as the Genesis, but if it works, I don't see any reason why you couldn't get $25 -$35 on eBay for it.  Bundling it with the Genesis lot is pretty well a crapshoot.  Bundles like that seem to sometimes sell for more, sometimes don't.  Really depends on the interested buyers.  Some folks are only interested in the one system and don't want to deal with having the other around.

I think it's eBay's newer fee structure which has caused a lot of the downturn in vintage video game sales (that and the fact that some of the more popular vintage games can be gotten on XBOX Live Marketplace and PSN).  They certainly don't seem to be selling for what they used to sell for.  A couple years back, you could easily get $100 for the Genesis lot you had listed.  They aren't cheap to ship and being that eBay now charges sellers a fee on shipping rates as well as raising the regular rates, it drove a lot of sellers away, which also tends to drive buyers away because there isn't as many options anymore.  Plus being that a lot of older systems seem to have some issues with newere TVs, many folks who otherwise might, don't seek them out which the price down because it's not in demand anymore.  Such instances haven't just effected vintage gaming sales either.  It's a lot of different items.

Ditto on the craigslist idea avoid all the fees and hassles... assuming you can't work something out with someone on this forum (always better to sell to a fellow game enthusit if you ask me).
