Did your friend know that you guys were dating?
Since you said "casual dating" were all parties aware? If yes it shouldn't matter as much.
Were you planning on making this serious? If so who was clearly aware?

First off, no offense, but I find this to be a weird place to ask for dating advice. As covers making eats up a lot of time and usually turns into a good reason to get dumped.
