| Paint Removal? |

Ok so I've been full of questions lately and the internet has failed me... and since the search bar up there isn't working to well right now I shall just ask. What is the best and safest way to remove spray paints off systems? I've picked up stuff over the years that has paint on them and I would like to figure out what products wouldn't harm the plastics. To be more specific, I have a gameboy that has spray paint on it. A gamecube with automotive paint on it. Then some odds and ends with spatteres on them from what I'm guessing to be from someone painting thier walls. I have tried Alcohol and it didn't do anything to the ones with spray paint. I was wanting to go with paint thinner but am afraid of damaging the plastic. |

You should try painters pal which is made by the goo gone company. You can probably pick this up at a hardware store but I use this to remove permanent marker and paint markers from my game carts. I am not sure how much paint is on your systems but this is worth a shot. You could also try orange glow paint remover which is also somewhat safe on plastics. As a warning, with painter's pal you really want to go easy on it because I'm not sure how it will effect some plastics. |

If it's lacquer-based, then you're pretty much SOL. Sand it down and repaint if the finish is shitty or worn. Anything that'll remove lacquer-based paint will almost make quick work of ABS plastic. Mineral spirits are fairly plastic friendly, just don't soak parts in it. Should work for most rattle can stuff. |
