TBH I thought the sword fight with Ghirahim was impressive, one of the few instances where the waggle impressed me, and holding the sword up to unleash an energy attack is also satisfying. XD

I read somewhere that the developers intend to continue with motion controls for Zelda... even though they do little more than turn Zelda into a tech showcase.

Considering that the WiiU uses the Wiimotes for most games, I've got a feeling that Zelda will be a waggle stick affair for a while to come.

I just hate that Nintndo insists on using motion control for EVERY one of its games. Just because the console if capable of such things doesn't mean that every single freakin' game needs to make use of the feature. So often it just feels like an afterthought. Like a ported GCN game that you play as if you were Harry Potter or something. Blek

So does Skyward sword just suck altogether?

No, it really doesn't.  It just incorporates the motion control into a vast majority of the gameplay.  If that is something that turns you off, you may have an issue with it.

I personally enjoyed the game a lot, despite the motion control stuff.  I only mentioned the Ghirahim fight because I'd hold my sword high to get him to raise his hand, then I'd quickly try to lower it and try for a sideways slash and instead Link would just do a normal downward slash, of course causing Ghirahim to catch my sword and make me his bitch.  It's like trying to quickly move your sword in a certain direction or get it to a certain spot to set up a specific kind of attack instead tells the game 'slash in this direction', often resulting in a failed attack and likely a hit.  That's very frustrating to deal with, but really beyond that it was a ton of fun.

If they would have just made an OPTION to use a retro pad I would have played and beaten the game already....instead it sits in its opened box with the controller as part of the collection.

I wish i could give some honest input on the actual game play....but coming home from work and swinging my arms around like I'm being attacked by bees isn't very appealing.

If you haven't gotten it yet, get it used from Gamestop and give it a try...if you like it, good, keep it.  If you don't like it bring it back within 7 days for a full refund.

I don't know why you feel the need to go that far. I can comfortably play with small swipes. Sure, if I get into it, I'll use broader strokes, but unless I need to point at the screen, my arm doesn't do nearly as much moving as you imply. Maybe I just got used to it really quick though.

I had no real problems getting into it.  However, I did have the same obnoxiously long time with the first Ghirahim fight, before I finally understood the mechanic.  My arm started to hurt from flapping it around every time he grabbed the tip of my sword.  I grew increasingly frustrated until I finally realized that they were using the directional sword swing as a very key mechanic.

Wiggy: Every time you post I hope the little pug will catch his friend but he never does :(

Okay, this I agree with wholeheartedly. They should've done a better job setting you up for that fight. Before then, there was nothing remotely similar to it, and Fi didn't give any useful hints in that first go-round.

LOL!  Those are my two pugs, Izzy (fawn) and Betty (black).  Izzy almost never catches Betty, she's too damned fast :)

Dogs are so great. Was a cat person all my life, then my wife converted me about 5 years ago. I'm so happy she did :)
