I do not yet own Zelda Skyward Sword, but I just want to know if it is mandatory that you stand up while playing?  I play all my games in my bed, even Mario Galaxy and other Wii games.  But because of Link's sword, is it absolutely necessary to be standing the whole time or can I lay down like always?

Not really. You will have to at least sit up for certain points, otherwise use the bed as a chair like I do.

You should be good.  You may have to sit up as mentioned, but I'm assuming you aren't laying all the way back anyways (as that would seem to detract from any gaming experience I would think).  There are always times when you need to move the wiimote and some points the wiimote must be held vertically (in relation to the sensor bar).

With how annoyingly "precise" you have to be with that damned game, I would wager that it'd be tough to play in bed, or while horizontal at all :/

While sitting very slouched on my couch is my preferred method of playing, I did play many segments of Skyward Sword lying on the floor (because my shaggy carpet really is that comfortable) without much issue. Some sword fights pretty much beg for you to at least sit up, and when flying, I sometimes found it awkward to dive when lying on the floor, though if you're on a bed, I imagine this will be less of an issue. Holding the Wii 'Mote vertically isn't that big of a deal when lying down, as I did it without issue.

Just remember, when playing Skyward Sword, Down on the D-Pad is your best friend, especially if you'll be playing in an unconventional position (such as really, really slouched, or lying down).

The first Girahim fight and the big beast in the pit often had me yelling, "No you dumb shit, don't swing THAT way..." at the TV.

This. It's probaly my second least favorite console Zelda... Zelda II is still worse. Maybe.

DUDE!  ONLY time a Zelda game actually pissed me off, and it wasn't because I couldn't figure out a puzzle.  No, it's just because I have to fight with the mother-effin' controller just to swing my stupid sword in the right direction.  Aaaaaaaaargh!

This is the very reason that it is the ONLY Zelda game that I ever put down in the middle of playing and didn't come back to.  I played it for about 5-6 hours, turned it off, and haven't touched it since.  And I'm a HUGE Zelda nut.  Zelda 1 was the 1st title that I beat on my own and I've taken vacation time from work for previous releases.  So this crap really ticks me off  >:(

I WILL eventually get back to it, but that waggle shit can bite my ass.

LOL!  I'm with ya.  It didn't add a damned thing to the game as far as I'm concerned.  I wish they'd just freakin' add an "old man" control option so I can play the game and RELAX.  When did gaming become a physical activity?! (rhetorical question, don't think you're cute by citing the Wii launch date or some crap like the Power Pad).  Even with the other Wii Zelda you could lean back and just barely give the wiimote a shake and Link would do his thing.  I even liked the aiming (sort of), but I'm not trying to learn how to fence.

This is the exact reason that I got Twilight Princess for the GC instead of the Wii.  Granted, Skyward Sword has the motion plus which definitely enhances the ability to use the Wii remote & nunchuk as a playstyle, but it's still overused.  I for one like Skyward Sword, but they should have included a way to use a GC and Classic controller as an alternative.  Continuing to force such control on the franchise is a bad move in my opinion.

Super Mario Galaxy is an excellent example of doing it right.  They incorporated the new controls only slightly (flick to do the spin, and point at screen to collect or manipulate objects), while maintaining the heart of the game.  Skyward Sword forces you to constantly be spinning and flicking the controller just to do simple attacks.  What happened to using buttons to swing your sword?!

Mainly because it's way too hard. I've beaten the original Zelda, but I could never play past the first TEMPLE in Zelda II.

While I admit I hated fighting Girahim the first time around, it was mainly due to my lack of understanding when he talked about projecting my attacks. Once I understood what that meant, the fight went by so quick, I admit I felt bad for not getting it sooner. All the other battles were easy enough, even the final battle (admittedly, I used a powered up protection potion for the last fight, so I never lost any hearts when I got hit. It kinda felt like cheating, but it was still satisfying to beat it).

I'm hoping the motion control gimmick thing is on its way out.  For some games I don't have a problem with it, like Wii Sports, but for a Zelda game (or a Mario game) it's really not necessary.  I second the 'old man mode' where you can just press a button to swing your sword.  I guess I'm just not to into the new gaming scene - my favourite Wii games are DKCR and NSMBW, and even THOSE had to find a way to shoe-horn in the Wiimote shake.  I've died in NSMBW because I've jumped onto a moving platform, went to scratch my nose which was enough to constitute a shake, and had Mario pirouette off the platform and into a pit.  REALLY wish I could turn off that crap.  Super Mario 64 worked just fine with a standard N64 controller, there's no reason the SMG games couldn't have as well.
