New Project, looking for input & gauging interest

If it were me, I'd be just looking for a brand name, then just identify the different shells by product number (sns101 or whatever)

Something like ConsoleMonkey - making a case for the retro generation. Lol

wiggy:

Well, that's sort of the tricky part.

I already am Wiggy Design, LLC.   So this product would fall under that "brand" by default.    The thing that I'm struggling with at the moment is the tree of nameplates/brands.  So, it'll either be something like this,

Wiggy Design,
Product Line,
Product Name

Or just

Wiggy Design,
Product Line or Product Name

Either way, I'm not there yet.

Did some research on wireless controller parts.  Looks like I can the raw parts for about 20 bucks per controller and that doesn't include a housing for the transceiver that plugs into the console.  If I do go forward with wireless controllers, then I'll have a housing made that matches the system shell that I've designed.

So, as far as pricing goes, here's what I have thus far.

SNES mini w/ 1 controller* (if not modding/supplying your own) - ~$50 (using eBay as a measure for average market price)
Extra Controller* - ~$10-15 (again, eBay)
Wireless Mod - probably about $30 per controller depending on how much work it ends up taking
LED Power Indicator Mod - $5-6 depending on color
S-Video Mod - $15-20
Console Shell - ? ? ?

Do these prices seem reasonable?  I will also offer package prices, and I'll obviously keep you guys updated about any of that once I have more of my costs sorted out.

*I don't plan on selling the original hardware at any sort of profit.  I plan to sell the hardware as close to my original purchase price as possible to those that want me to mod the console for them and aren't supplying their own.  So, if the market starts to fizzle, then I'll charge less.  If the market picks up, you get the idea.

Had a great meeting with the manufacturer today!  This project seems entirely doable on almost any scale, whether I sell 5 or 5,000 ;D  Material choices ended up being a lot more plentiful than expected.  Here's a little teaser ;)

Of course plastics are still in as well.

So, I need to crank out a complete assembly of parts (what you guys are looking at was build as one, solid chunk for appearance purposes).  Anyone waiting for me to try and get some covers completed (sorry Forte :( ), well, that's gonna go on the back burner for a couple of weeks while I model up a prototype, create a pattern for packaging, get files sent out for labels, etc.  Gonna be BUSY for a few weeks at least.  I hope you guys are still as excited as I am!  If all goes well, I should have the 1st prototype in my hands in about 2-3 weeks, tops :D

Once I have some prices sorted out, I'll probably build a kickstarter page.   I don't need a big startup fund, but it would help me create a far more complete product (packaging, website, etc.).   I'm thinking polished aluminum and purple heart for the $1,000 donation mark ;)

So this is only going to be for the SNES model 2?

CommunistGamer:

That looks great ;D
Now if only it had a custem super gameboy shell to go with it.
