Any and all services you want to offer that deal with altering the insides is great for me. I know next to nothing about motherboards or soldering or any of that.

I just had an odd thought. Let's say you make this SNES mini reshell, and then you later do a front-loading NES-001 shell. Assuming that you'd do away with the NES "door" and instead include a dust flap(s), then the top would be pretty much bare. I wonder if there's a way you could make your SNES and NES stackable without it being too noticeable on either by themselves? Like maybe have holes in the underside of the SNES shell, and have holes on the top of the NES shell, and then  pegs that can connect the two? I guess I'm picturing it sort of like SFC & Sattellaview or the N64 and N64DD, but with the SNES atop the NES. Maybe if that's doable, you could offer an NES shell that complements the SNES? They'd be fine apart, but I'm just spit-balling here.

Nice.
I think ill need to buy a mini snes just for the  case and stuff. any more 3d rendering for us to admire?

Nothing yet. I modeled that Coke can up, but didn't get around to rendering it. Downloaded a different rendering program. It's only a 2 week trial, but I'll try and get some nice renderings done this week.

wiggy, are you redisigning the controllers too?

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't given it some thought...

@TF and Shenske - why do you think I referenced high end AV equipment and a cohesive aesthetic? ;)

That's just one more reason you see the NES-001, SNS-001, and N64 right next to each other on my list...

Also, I wasn't digging the inability to know for sure whether the damned thing was on or off when testing the S-video mod. So, in true wiggy spirit, I added another mod to assist me :P

I found a whole mess of purple SMD LEDs in a little roll at the bottom of my lighting drawer. Doesn't photograph well, but it's super intense purple, just like the switches ;D

style, keep them looking like the originals, just in a range of colours

How do you mean "like the originals"?  Like replicas, or just keeping in line with the original design, sort of like I did with the SNES mini concept?  I.e. things like a similar color palette, similar shapes and proportions, etc.

replicas, similar to what you can get for the X360/WII/PS3. preferably in clear red.

I don't have any desire to make replicas.  If you're really interested in making something like that, I can give you a list of the materials you'd need to make your own castings.  It's actually not too tricky to make a silicone mold for something like that.

You know what, you should sell wireless contolls like this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LlnmfaILCHw.
Only, extend the plug out as an option for those who want to put the wireless ones on any console.

Hold on now, if he's making custom controllers, I'd rather he try to do a Hori DC controller.

Not that I expect Wiggy to make it. Would be nice though, so long as it's not $100+ like what you may find online.

Been incredibly sick this entire week, so I haven't done anything at all. Still have a meeting scheduled with the potential manufacturer.  I'll post updates as they happen. Just thought I'd give you guys an update.

Despite feeling like my world is ending, I got a little work done today.

Created info label for the bottom of the system and got a price quote. They'll be silver foil stickers just like on the original units :)

I think I'm gonna use WIG-SNS-101 as the model number. I'll probably use something similar for any future systems as well.

Still no specific name for the product. Suggestions are welcome ;D

Meeting on Monday with manufacturer at about noon, Eastern Standard time. I should have at least an idea about pricing at that point.

Looking at prices for wireless controller parts. I don't really want to redesign controllers since it would be extra work, extra $$$, and sorta pointless since the SNES controller is such an excellent design in the 1st place. If I do, it won't be a "re-design" so much as a revision that would allow me to more easily pack wireless bits inside and mount points for a discreet on/off switch & LED indicator.

Packaging is on back burner. Not sure all of what will be included at this point, so it's hard to estimate size/shape.

I will be offering S-Video and SCART upgrades to those that are interested. The parts are cheap, and I'll save headache by pre-wiring "kits" so that I can just slap em in without having to measure wire length and whatnot for every unit that I mod.  It's 110% worth it IMO. I'll TRU and snap some conparisson shots this weekend between a few variants of the SFC running through both composite and S-video.

Not much else going on. New rendering software doesn't like my video card. So no new renders yet. Gonna pull out the old PC and try on it instead.

More to come...

Yeah, it sucks when you're really sick and want to work on fun stuff.  :(

How about the Super Nintendo Mini Deluxe for a name? I think this and most other shells could use some kind of name to fit the "premium" concept. Like NES Deluxe, Sega Genesis Deluxe, Sony Playstation Deluxe, etc.

So would you be making new casts of the SNES controller shell? If so, when you get to the Nintendo Playstation, maybe you could make the controller look like the one in the prototype.

It's not a redesign, it's a recoloring with a different logo stamp. Recasting is just making copies of the existing shells.
