I remember the US TG-16 being pretty full inside. Something about a revised (I.e. cheaper) chipset being used for ours. I don't have one anymore, otherwise I'd crack one open :(

The price point that you guys want is pretty consistent. I'll try and aim for that 50-100 mark, but no promises. It may mean a slightly less refined product at that price. We'll see.

I'll address specific posts when I get home. Too much work on the phone.

I'd give my first born son for one of those SoNintendo PlayStations. It would probably work better with PS2 hardware? Not sure. I envision the SFC/Satellavision type look to it, with a front loading cd drive for the PS1/2 part, and then having the cart slot on the top. If that's too technically difficult, maybe having it look like that Jaguar CD mockup with the top loading cd tray in the front, and the cart slot in the back. As far as the controllers go, have SNES on top of/below PS1/2 ports? Again I'm not aware of the technical limitations, but picturing it in my mind, it looks quite awesome :D

What i would love is sanded white cases to do case paint jobs on.
And also something like 1 base for 2 or 3 super famicoms,
so I could have a Super Famicom unmodded, A US cart slot modded SFC, and a PAL snes all in "one" .
But the tops could stay the same or have a custom case

Working on some modelling.  Was a super busy weekend (but I did sneak out to see teh Avengers, totally worth it), so I haven't had a chance to reply to everyone just yet.  I'll address everyone's replies, questions, and concerns ASAP!

Alright, busy busy busy.  I knocked out this quick mockup today.  This would house the original guts with ZERO modification.  Simply unbolt the board from the original shell, and then bolt it into this guy.  ANYONE will be able to do this.  I will even include a security driver for those that don't already have one.  5 minute job, tops.

Is this a design that works for any of you folks?

Remember, NOTHING is set in stone at this point.  I'm just tossing out ideas to get an idea of what will have the broadest appeal and what doesn't.  Tell me what ya' think and I'll get back to it :)

Sweet.
And as an idea.
Why not sell universal cart shells also.
Size of a SFC cart, but have the grooves in it so it can be played on ntsc-j and ntsc-u without console mods, if you want to to play a game on anyone elses snes or sfc

Someone else was suggesting this as well.  It's not at all a bad idea, but I want to take it one step at a time for now.  I have some other ideas with regards to casing games and whatnot.  Again, with the idea being to help make the collection look more "adult".  More to come...

I could be pursuaded to have an NTSC snes on my shelf if it looked like this badboy!  Very nice clean design, and love it in black.

If only cart slots could be front mounted so that multiple systems could be stacked,  like high end stereo equipment.  This would require considerable modification,or a larger case and some sort of pass through/extender for the cart slot,  and push prices and installation difficulty up though.  It would enable lots of different systems to be in the same shape/style, all stacked tidily,  with just their relevant logo on the front.  That would look amazing.

  • Think off-center.

For the black I would recommend a black replacement shell for the controller.

I would LOVE to do a front load unit, but like you said, it would take more work, a lot more.

They way I'm looking at this project right now, I'm thinking start with something simple and foolproof like this, then, if I have some success I'll possibly offer some special edition units that are more custom for the really die-hard folks.  Maybe even something as complex as the SNES-Station in very small quantities.   I know how gamers love their special/limited editions ;)

One other thing I've been thinking about is packaging.  I know that, as an old schooler myself, there's something EXTREMELY exciting about unboxing a new system.  With that in mind, would you guys be interested in a full retail package for these units, not just bubble wrap in a brown box?  I will undoubtedly create at least one prototype package for myself, and I'll get quotes for that sort of thing if you guys feel like it's a worthwhile idea.

Very nice.  The force is strong with this one.  This case would make one of my mustard yellow snes the star of the room
