Looking at my CDX with 32X attached sitting right under my SNES phat, I can confirm that it would easily fit in that size of shell, maybe smaller with some adjustment.

oooooooooh.  so maybe with some slight modifications to the snes mini case designed above, you could have a matching SNES and Sega Super System!?  say it isn't so.

i'll donate the first CDX & 32X if someone with the skill wants to take that on :)

Got price quotes for the initial proto today.  Just going over a few questions with the folks that will be doing the work.  We're looking at a 5 day turnaround for the parts.  So, with any luck, I should be able to show you guys something in about 1-2 weeks.

It would end up in a completely different case.  There's no sense is having to hack a custom case apart for something like that when that's EXACTLY why I'm making the cases in the 1st place.  I have the skill set, tools, and relationships with manufacturers to make a part that's perfectly suited for a custom Neptune shell.  If enough folks want a Neptune/SEGA all-in-one shell, then so be it!  I WILL make it happen.

As far as letting me borrow parts in order to make it happen, well, we'll see.  I'd like to do these without borrowing parts here and there.  Nothing personal, I just don't know how long I would need to have the parts on hand, and that would likely cause me to make hasty decisions in order to get the parts back to their owner sooner than I really should in order to get everything properly measured and prototyped.

when i said "modifications" i meant "design modifications" not hard modifications to your already existing design once they're manufactured.  that'd be a little redundant.  i think if they were EXTREMELY similar in design, it would look slick as all get out.  imagine a black/grey or black/midnight blue case like you presented before for GEN/SCD/32X and a grey/purple SNES case sitting right next to each other.   :o

EDIT: and i'm totally dreaming and probably phoning this one in, but a PS3-style slot-loading cd drive for the SCD would be mind-blowing.

If it was ultimately based on the prototype Sega Neptune shell, it would have to have some modifications to allow CDs. I'd definitely get in on a Genesis-CD-32X/Neptune.

Heck, might as well throw in the Power Base Converter, and somehow have a 4-in-1 Sega system: Master System, Genesis, CD & 32X! :P

Just Kidding.... ::) But I'm sure people would want to make sure the Power Base Converter could fit on top of such a system.

Wiggy, I was looking at the mock-ups you posted back on page 7 and I'm wondering if brushed aluminum is an option for the case.  (The first few images seem to suggest that.)  You said that "material choices are more plentiful than expected".  Maybe you can elaborate on that?  Speaking solely for myself, I love the sleek look of electronics in metal casings.

Impossable. power base will not word with the 32x. you would need to have a cart path switch box.
which i will try to make sometime.

Well, the proto is on its way, but it's gonna need some color as its being machined from raw white ABS. So, I figured I'd ask you guys and gals for some opinions. I want to get a Kickstarter page up ASAP, and having some nice photos of a complete painted proto will obviously be a big plus. So, let me know what you think! Here are a few quickies to get started

I'm also considering making matching cart shells.

To be honest I'd be happy with any of those.  But I think the high gloss red is calling to me the loudest.

Man, I wouldn't have guessed that red would be the choice color, but then again, I guess it shouldn't come as much of a surprise.  Red is like the magic color of "I need that now!"  ;D

I'm loving the black and grey. Save the gloss red for your CMVS case!

Ohh as much as I like the original colours of the SNES, I'm taking a liking to the grey and orange, it looks really nice. And I think cart shells would be an interesting idea :)

By white I of course mean the original snes colors. With the kickstarter method for funds a good idea would be to start with a standard color scheme that is recognized by a broader spectrum and with larger donations offer different or custom colors and what ever else like other kickstarter programs. "1000.00 Donations get you; Pick any 2 primary colors and come on out for a "Dinner with Wiggy"  XD
