Yoshi: Either dirty connectors for the FX-chip (the 2 extra boardson both sidesof the main board)? Or busted FX-chip?

Wario: Dirty connectors?

Try cleaning consoles as well.

If you can try the games on another consoles too, so you know is it console or the games.
But if other games work fine, it's the games probably.

I've had an SNES get really screwy with Super FX games before, so the system being wonky is very possible.

Sounds scarily like busted FX-chip = dead game.
But try with different console if you can.

Have you tested the games on another console? If you've got a store that sells old school games or does video game repair, they may have spare consoles which you can test the games your games on, if you don't have spare consoles to test with.

Are you able to open the cart?  If you don't have a gamebit to do so with, then there's a trick you can use to open them with a cheap ball point pen.  That will give you better access and the ability to really give it a good scrub if it needs it.  Just "cleaning" it may not solve the problem.  Corrosion/buildup can be an issue as well.  I found that a huge amount of my carts were pretty crusty once I started cleaning and casing them (I bough most of my games used, so who knows how they were treated/stored before I owned them).

Open again, check for broken/corroded traces from that button.

Clean BOTH the contact pads on the buttons themselves and the PCB.  Isopropyl will do the trick, any concentration.  If the brass contacts on the PCB look corroded, then I would suggest something called TarnX. I've been using it for a while to restore water damaged portables with a LOT of success. Just make absolutely sure to clean it all off when you're done. If left on metal, it will eventually tarnish/corrode the metal part (ironic, as it's used to remove tarnish).

i was going to suggest broken traces as well, had a controller where the start button didnt work all the time, opened it up and the board had a crack just after the start button, bit of solder sorted it out!
