I have had my Playstation 3 for two years now and am convinced it was a waste of $300.  I have 5 games and I never even touch them.  I'm a Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong Country, Crash Bandicoot kind of guy.  Can anyone recommend any games for this system I may like?  I already have the Sonic games for it.

There are lots of great platformers on PSN.  In terms of retail games, some of the disney releases, while aimed at the younger end of the market are pretty good platform adventures (i played cloudy with a chance of meatballs to the end, and enjoyed it).  i've said it before, and i'll say it again inFamous is a truly brilliant game. loved, loved, loved it.  Then theres plenty outside of your comfort zone that are great and can be picked up relatively cheap: wipeout fury, singstar (great with a buch of drunk friends), motorstorm, pain, buzz.

if you don't have already on 360, then the need for speed games, burnout paradise, skate franchise, lego games, virua tennis, fifa.  All worth a play imho.

If it's strictly cutesy platformers you are after, and the ones on PSN don't float your boat, then i'd save your cash and hold out for nintendo's next console.

There is always Little Big Planet, but everybody owns, has played, and loves that game. Arseen's recommend Jak HD Collection is a great recommend, considering it is made by the team who made Crash Bandicoot. One that isn't Console Exclusive would be Rayman Origins. You can get it for the Wii/360/PC as well, but the PS3 version looks amazing. Also, up to 4 player Co-Op doesn't hurt.

Also, if it ISN'T just "cutesy" games you like when it comes to patformers, and you aren't opposed to PSN, some specific ones I'd recommend are Outland (also on 360), and to seriously look into Journey. It's not quite like what you've said you liked( Journey, I mean,), but if you give it a chance, you are in for an incredible treat.

Nintendo kind of has the market on Old School style Platformers right now (and probably always will).

I've made a large list of games I want for my collection.  Here's what I have for the PS3 (I just got a PS3 so I have very few games for it):

Bold = platformer which is what you seem to be talking about

Rayman Origins (PS3/360)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (PS3)
God of War: Origins Collection (PS3)
God of War Collection (PS3)
God of War III (PS3)
The Sly Collection (PS3)
Jak and Daxter Collection (PS3)
Ratchet and Clank Collection (PS3)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools for Destruction (PS3)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PS3)
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (PS3)

The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection (PS3)
Tomb Raider Trilogy (PS3)
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy (PS3)
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (360/PS3)
Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City or GTA IV: Complete Edition (360/PS3)
The Orange Box (360/PS3)

Also, you should check out Little Big Planet (1 or 2?) and Metal Gear Solid 4.  And if you are into it, Red Dead Redemption.

Edit: They also just released Rayman 3 on the PSN I think as an HD remake.  I was planning to get Rayman 2 and 3 for the PS2, but I'm not sure if your PS3 is backwards compatible like mine.

Jack/Daxter games, Ratchet/Clank games, LBP has been said a couple times. (there are 2 and a LBP Kart coming out soon), Modnation Racers, Sly Cooper collection...I cant really think of more around or like the type you listed....the PS3 is NOT the machine of choice for those types of games.

 I only listed console exclusives.

No he is not :)

I thought it was one of the most boring games I've ever played. I really don't get what's so great about it.

It's not that I think it's stupid or anything. But I didn't have any fun with it. I got it for free, played for a day, never touched it again ever since.

I never had much fun with it either, until my friend convinced me to play it online with him and a few people we knew. It is more of a party game than a single player experience. Playing with 3 other people, grabbing onto their feet while they perilously swing over a pit of fire, only to have them miss and you both fall to your death is always amusing. Lots of shenanigans to be had. I never had much fun making levels in the game at all though. But to each their own.

As a PS3 owner, I find it better to avoid if possible the Multi-platform games. If it comes out on PS3, 360 and PC, i get the PC version unless the PS3 version is the original development and the others are ports...like with DMC IV and Final Fantasy XIII. But if its unavoidable, I get the PS3 version.
My LPs Channel. Currently playing Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Resident Evil 2.
