He got lucky as best I can tell. Nothing in that auction is particularly valuable.

I herd that the Super Mario Bros. game is ultra rare and super collectible.
If you have nothing to do... Don't do it here!

Could be a few different factors at play.  Honestly, I didn't see anything worth that much within the lot.  The seller had some pretty good games in the lot, but nothing that is really all that valuable.  The system and games did seem really clean, which probably means they were well cared for, so that might have helped.  Mostly likely, the seller just got lucky and happened to have two bidders get into a little bidding war over it, which escalated the price beyond what it probably should have garnered.

Most nes systems ive seen are average 70- 80 bucks on auctions.   but doubt the games would have equaled another 80 total , but hey one mans trash is another's treasure , maybe he really wanted certain games in the lot for his collection

I think over the last few years/months NES stuff generally got more expensive to buy. It's the same with SNES stuff!

If anyone's interested, I've got a rare Crash Bandicoot 1 CIB (greatest hits version).  I'll let it go for 80 bucks :P

I got my solo copy of "Mario 1" for about five bucks not long ago, and I once saw a used "five-screw" copy for $15.

Well I had no Idea what game it was. But any way I got my NES off eBay for 60$ with CIB SMB1,2,3 Duck hunt and Mario bros loose with sleeve and manual.

Man, I feel like toaster NES systems were going for like 15-20 just five years ago. Am I crazy?  I had no idea those things were worth anything now.

I think its because the NES was not as popular in the UK as it was in the US with home computers like the C64, Amstrad CPC, Atari 8bit, and ZX spectrum having command and having games at 1.99 pounds.

Well, the NES "top loader" was very limited to begin with; it was only in circulation for 5 months. Many who bought them have probably kept them as collector's items, while the others often disappear very quickly when they show up online. Amazon currently sells used ones starting at $85, with a new one being $750!

I'm from the US, Ignore the British musicians below. They have gone up to around 40$ for the system.
