...why wouldn't it play tengen games or Castlevania III? It's just a connector.

--- End quote ---

Ive found some of the newer connectors are not quite right. For example Generation Nex by Messiah uses a modded 72pin connector that looks like the top loaders but is the same as the replacement one i got for my nes. It too does not play tegen gauntlet for example.... nor does it play castlevania 3.

There's you're problem. Generation Nex is just another clone with compatibility problems.. The connector doesn't matter one bit.

Like Scarmullet said, it's the NOAC, not the connector.

I think you are misunderstanding me. the 72 pin connectors that are on the market now are not always compatible with every title in the nes library. If your original nes's one breaks.... you may end up with one that doesnt play everything. The hardware is almost 30 years old right? Makes getting an original 72pin connector that still works a bit challenging. (I think the confusion is i compare my nes to my nex all the time.)

My nes got the blinking red light.... thats the indicator for dead 72pin connector. (some times it means dirty so try cleaning it first... the light means bad connection to 72pin connector). So I bought a new 72pin connector. For most all games it works but like my generation nex, it wont play castlevania 3. Cart plays fine in my toploader.... and when the old nes 72pin worked it played fine there too.

However, the toploader plays all perfectly.... just the connection to your tv is rf and sucky.

If I open it up and drill a few holes and do a bit of work, I can have that sucker connecting AV and have no issues.

It has nothing to do with the connector, its the NOAC and mapper incompatibility.

How is it a nes-on-a-chip incompatability when i am speaking of my original nes and its 72pin connector dien and being replaced with a new 72pin connector.

I replaced the old one in my NES and now it doesnt play castlevania 3. It use to before the old one broke.

It's a bunch of folded metal and plastic, that's it. There's no reason that Castlevania III shouldn't work. You probably either did something wrong installing it or there's something else wrong with that NES.

The only issue I've had with those replacement connectors is how tight they are and how for some reason (probably related to the tightness) they tend to work better if you leave the game "up".

I highly doubt it. Its very simply slide one off and slide the other on. The nes played CV3 before and now it doesnt so its not the nes... its the 72 pin connector as thats the only thing that changed.
