Mega Man's 25th
satoshi_matrix:
I'm a huge Megaman fan who was deeply dissipointed with the cancellation of both Megaman Universe and Legends 3. BOTH are games I was hotly looking forward to.
Before any games can be done, for the 25th Anniversary Capcom needs to reconcile with Keiji Inafune. There can be no Rockman without Keiji Inafune, and if you look at the majority of Capcom's best games over the past few years, you'll see that Keiji Inafune was involved time and time again. It would be like if Shigeru Miyamoto severed ties to Nintendo and then Nintendo was tasked with making a new mario game on their own.

Why? I have an SFC as well, but I'm not gonna be bothered to drag it out when I want to play a Japanese game. Now, if the SFC played US games without an adapter or anything, then it would be the one to stay out all the time ;)
On a side note and in that vein, I have a project that I'm working on which may interest many of you folks. Stay tuned...

Then always when you want to play "simply" move the Japanese game's board in toi the empty US shell.

Why on Earth would you want todo that? Removing the tabs is painless and you'll NEVER even see the modification. It's not like the SNES is some treasured, rare item. They're a dime a dozen.

I don't know about yours, but MY SNES is some treasured item. I've had that thing since I was 7, and I'm not modding it for anything. It would hurt me on some level, and even if I can't see it, I'll know the mod is there. It's too painful to think about. :'(

Without derailing the original topic much more, I'll just say thank you Satoshi_Matrix and others for the tips on the Anniversary Collection and the problems it had. But as I said my goal is really only to play the Mega Man games since I never have - I don't really care if the controls, presentation or bonus features are exactly as they should be. Besides I don't have a PS2 or Xbox, and I don't really have any problems with the Anniversary Collection so far, save for the different button sizes, which an SNES controller would fix for me.
It's not really feasible right now for me to try to track down each individual game just so I can play them for the first time especially since I don't have an NES currently, so this collection is the best option for me. Maybe someday I'll track them down, but I wasn't going to do that if I didn't know whether or not I liked playing the series, especially with some of the prices I've seen on eBay. In the same vein, if someone had never played a Mario game and wanted my advice on where to start, I'd probably recommend Super Mario All-Stars for Wii or SNES and then Super Mario World. The SMAS graphics aren't the same as the original, the music is different, and it's certainly not my ideal version of them, but just to play them as a first go at the series, I think it's a very good option. So if I play with an SNES controller and the buttons are swapped, it's really of no consequence to me because I'm just wanting to play them as a non-fan, as opposed to as a fan of the series (where I can understand that the swap would be very frustrating and stupid - as a fan SMAS for Wii was a terrible cop-out and could have been much better). Thanks for letting me know about it though.
That being said, I got in the Mega Man X Collection, and I must say Mega Man X is really fun... :)
And Wiggy, you just had to tempt me with that mysterious project of yours.... ???

I bought my SNES on launch day and modded it about a week later when we figured out that all it took was a pair of pliers to make it play SFC games. Mine is a treasured item as well, but it's not like the mod devalued it. Hell, I can just buy another if I want. Plus, I already had a Japanese copy of Ultraman and Castlevania when I picked up my SNES and I needed a way to play them both :P
The project should hopefully end up being a little money maker for me. I really feel like it's something that the retro crowd would be sorta excited about ;D
