Don't hate on BBA Mega Man. That was a design choice Keiji Inafune approved of, and it would have been more amusing if not for all the crap Mega Man's been through in the past year.

As far as the 25th, all we've got thusfar is Project X Zone, which feature X and Zero, but that doesn't really count. A new compilation would be nice, but it would either just be a rehash of the GCN/PS2 compilations, or maybe a compilation of Mega Man 1-5 for the Gameboy (which they were making for the GBA, but it got shelved), which I would like, but I won't hold my breath.

And TF, enjoy those games. The buttons are screwy on the gamecube for the Aniversary Collection, but otherwise it's solid.

The fact that they went through with it after cancelling the two games he was based on (BBA MM being in Universe, and his backstory being based on Trigger from Legends) was insensitive to the community at beast, trolling at worst. Inafking may have approved of it when Capcom was going to release his games, but I doubt he'd approve of it today. Not like it matters since their inability to do anything but re-release Street Fighter games 40 times made him and everyone worth a darn at Capcom leave. I wish they'd just sell the Mega Man franchise to IntiCreates and be done with it.

As far as getting a hold of Mega Man games, Atomic Planet did a terrible job on the AC games. Mega Man 7 doesn't have Mode7 effects, Mega Man 8 has toned down graphics and messed up sound, and the NES games have washed out colors and most of the Complete Works bonus features removed (power up parts in 4-6, extra modes, etc). Getting the original games isn't too expensive except for Mega Man 7 (1, 5, and 6 are the expensive NES ones at about 30 a piece), but it's still way cheaper to get the AC when those hover around 10 each on all three consoles. The problem with the original games is getting the original hardware, which if you're going to buy clone hardware, you might as well just emulate the games on PC.

Now if you REALLY want to be a baller, you can get the original Japanese releases for even cheaper, but then you'd need a Famicom, Super Famicom, and either a Japanese PS1 or Saturn. Sadly enough, I've got all of that stuff  :D

Well you could just cut tabs in an SNES for the Super Famicom games, and playing imports on Saturn isn't hard at all, and there are adapters for Famicom games...

I hate that tab cutting method. Before I got my SFC, I picked up a Game Saver device that doubled as a converter. But, I found a SFC for about 35 bucks, and I always liked the look better so I was glad to get it. For Saturn, the Action Replay 4M served me well until I got a White Japanese Saturn (again, aesthetic reasoning there too). Finding a Famicom adapter is pretty hard though, and I just gave up and got a Famicom (60 dollars shipped with 9 games) for playing those.

But yes, there are cheaper methods than buying Japanese hardware to play imports. I just like how the Japanese stuff looks 8)

One cheap but labor intensive way is to buy useless US snes cart and gut it.

Then always when you want to play "simply" move the Japanese game's board in toi the empty US shell.

...why wouldn't it play tengen games or Castlevania III? It's just a connector.

Ive found some of the newer connectors are not quite right. For example Generation Nex by Messiah uses a modded 72pin connector that looks like the top loaders but is the same as the replacement one i got for my nes. It too does not play tegen gauntlet for example.... nor does it play castlevania 3.

However, the toploader plays all perfectly.... just the connection to your tv is rf and sucky.

If I open it up and drill a few holes and do a bit of work, I can have that sucker connecting AV and have no issues.

lol thats a great idea.

Along that same line of thought, I have been gutting an extra supermario/duckhunt cart for screws recently, while cleaning my old carts.

I only paid about $7 each for the second, third, and fourth games; the others are the hard ones. $50 for a used NES game is ridiculous.

Id pay 50 if it came with the original box and manual..... Actually Id pay more (especially if we are talking about Mega Man 6.... that one is rare in the box with the manual.)

Quote
I disagree; some cloned systems may be better than others, but nothing can totally replace the original hardware. I bought a refurbished SNES a few months ago, and it works brilliantly. Only paid about $100 for it, too.

I agree, but I think you paid a bit much. I got a SNES v2 (the smaller one) for $50 on ebay about a year ago. (part of the reason i bought the nes top loader... they match. lol)

Its all about the deals, finding the deal is important.

It has nothing to do with the connector, its the NOAC and mapper incompatibility.

I'm a huge Megaman fan who was deeply dissipointed with the cancellation of both Megaman Universe and Legends 3. BOTH are games I was hotly looking forward to.

Before any games can be done, for the 25th Anniversary Capcom needs to reconcile with Keiji Inafune. There can be no Rockman without Keiji Inafune, and if you look at the majority of Capcom's best games over the past few years, you'll see that Keiji Inafune was involved time and time again. It would be like if Shigeru Miyamoto severed ties to Nintendo and then Nintendo was tasked with making a new mario game on their own.

I hate that tab cutting method.

Why?  I have an SFC as well, but I'm not gonna be bothered to drag it out when I want to play a Japanese game.  Now, if the SFC played US games without an adapter or anything, then it would be the one to stay out all the time ;)

On a side note and in that vein, I have a project that I'm working on which may interest many of you folks.  Stay tuned...

Then always when you want to play "simply" move the Japanese game's board in toi the empty US shell.

Why on Earth would you want todo that?  Removing the tabs is painless and you'll NEVER even see the modification.  It's not like the SNES is some treasured, rare item.  They're a dime a dozen.

I don't know about yours, but MY SNES is some treasured item. I've had that thing since I was 7, and I'm not modding it for anything. It would hurt me on some level, and even if I can't see it, I'll know the mod is there. It's too painful to think about. :'(

Without derailing the original topic much more, I'll just say thank you Satoshi_Matrix and others for the tips on the Anniversary Collection and the problems it had. But as I said my goal is really only to play the Mega Man games since I never have - I don't really care if the controls, presentation or bonus features are exactly as they should be. Besides I don't have a PS2 or Xbox, and I don't really have any problems with the Anniversary Collection so far, save for the different button sizes, which an SNES controller would fix for me.

It's not really feasible right now for me to try to track down each individual game just so I can play them for the first time especially since I don't have an NES currently, so this collection is the best option for me. Maybe someday I'll track them down, but I wasn't going to do that if I didn't know whether or not I liked playing the series, especially with some of the prices I've seen on eBay. In the same vein, if someone had never played a Mario game and wanted my advice on where to start, I'd probably recommend Super Mario All-Stars for Wii or SNES and then Super Mario World. The SMAS graphics aren't the same as the original, the music is different, and it's certainly not my ideal version of them, but just to play them as a first go at the series, I think it's a very good option. So if I play with an SNES controller and the buttons are swapped, it's really of no consequence to me because I'm just wanting to play them as a non-fan, as opposed to as a fan of the series (where I can understand that the swap would be very frustrating and stupid - as a fan SMAS for Wii was a terrible cop-out and could have been much better). Thanks for letting me know about it though.

That being said, I got in the Mega Man X Collection, and I must say Mega Man X is really fun... :)

And Wiggy, you just had to tempt me with that mysterious project of yours.... ???

I bought my SNES on launch day and modded it about a week later when we figured out that all it took was a pair of pliers to make it play SFC games.  Mine is a treasured item as well, but it's not like the mod devalued it. Hell, I can just buy another if I want. Plus, I already had a Japanese copy of Ultraman and Castlevania when I picked up my SNES and I needed a way to play them both :P

The project should hopefully end up being a little money maker for me. I really feel like it's something that the retro crowd would be sorta excited about ;D
