To each their own.
I personally love demakes! If they ever make a good rom demake hack of MegaMan 7 for the nes i'd be all over it (even if it was very stripped down).  I'm referring to a hack that was actually playable on the hardware ... not the pc demakes.

I've always figured this would be quite possible. Heck they could just hack Mega Man 5 or something. There's got to be some Mega Man level editing tools out there.

Bringing this thread back on topic...

I mentioned this earlier, but just now dug it up:
http://www.intellivisiongames.com/bluesky/games/credits/colecoint.shtml#Anchor-Donkey-57224

Quote
When the programmers at Mattel Electronics saw the Intellivision version of Donkey Kong, they were shocked at how bad it was. They actually suspected a conspiracy: that Coleco released an awful version for Intellivision so that the ColecoVision version - and the ColecoVision itself - would look that much better.

Far more likely it was the result of a rushed development schedule and having no experienced Intellivision programmers on staff.

But whatever the reason, the programmers (specifically Bill Fisher, Steve Roney, Mark Urbaniec and Keith Robinson) begged management for the opportunity to program their own version of Donkey Kong - not for release, obviously, but to demonstrate for the press what Intellivision could do when programmed properly. They were confident they could put together a version more faithful in feel and gameplay to the original arcade game than even the ColecoVision version. Management said no, feeling the programmers' time could be better spent.

I'd like Mega Man 9 and 10

At least mega Man 2 has been hacked several times.

;D   hey applequeso!   you are the victim of mistaken identity!  LOLOLOLOLOLOL

The real ass is mariocaseman.   ;D
This ASS is trying to save our site from getting shut down.  Google Nintendo's piracy policy sometime, it is pretty harsh.  For the security of our site, I think it is best not to promote illegal, unauthorized material.  Just making a point.

I agree, this guy's funny. I love when he curses at the screen, because he doesn't explode, but still feels the need to call it a son of a whore.

While it might be possible to make NES hacks of Mega Man 7 and 8, it's already been stated by developers and fans alike that 9 and 10 are far more complex than they lead on, and that they wouldn't fit in a standard NES cart. But I remain optimistic.

Maybe not as is, but should be possible to do them as MM6 hacks maybe?

oh my god

are you serious?

I mean, really? Seriously, seriously?

You actually think that nintendo is going to shut down the website because there's a thread on a forum linking to an article talking about the existance of a homebrew port of Donkey Kong on the fucking Intellevision?

How insanely paranoid can you get? Nintendo doesn't care what we discuss, no matter what you think we're "promoting". God, how many forums out there do you think have had members talk about getting an R4 or Wii homebrew hacks? How about the hundreds of forums dedicated to emulation? Or perhaps all the countless forum threads about unlicensed and chinese pirate NES carts? I don't see any of them shut down over it.

And besides, even if Nintendo actually was on some rabid witch hunt getting sites shut down left and right because they dared to talk about unlicensed arcade game ports for 30 year old consoles, do you really think seeing one member say "they're all unauthorized, unlicensed bullshit pieces of garbage" would stop them?

No, I fear that they will find the website promoting the homebrew and since we have a link to it, they may stumble upon our site.  I'm really not trying to be a dick despite how my posts sound.  It is just that our site is very low key, but if Nintendo did find it they may try to shut it down, we already have people selling the artwork from this site on Ebay and trust me when they eventually get nailed they will say where they got the art.  Anyway, Nintendo actually has an anti-piracy team to find crap like DK remakes and such.  I remember a couple years ago when they found a guy making repo DS games he had to pay Nintendo $1.5Million in restitution.  I just think associating ourselves with illegal stuff is dangerous.  Just be careful guys, I just want us all to have this site forever.

That $1.5 million restitution you're talking about was because a guy leaked out New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Had nothing to do with reproduced DS carts or unauthorized Intellivision ports.

I'm not going to bother explaining why leaking a game is a seriously big deal to them while homebrew games for old consoles (and for that matter, cover art websites) aren't.

Nintendo probably already knows about us anyway and has for a long time. I'd be willing to put money on it even.

Must be another situation, I know what I am talking about and they were DS games and he was selling them on Ebay.

The closest thing to what you're talking about that I've ever heard of was their lawsuits against the makers of the R4.

In any case, again, I shouldn't have to explain why counterfeit DS games are a big deal to them while cover art websites and unauthorized DK ports aren't.
