The shelves mojoskateco is talking about seem to be the same ones I was talking about. It does hold about 29 UGCs per shelf. They are also deep enough to double up on each row, if you needed to. I will upload a picture of my shelves in the next couple of days, in case there are any descrepencies.

If you are interested, don't rush out and grab them immediately. Instead, sign up for the IKEA e-mail newsletter. I picked up two white Billy Bookcases for about $30 or $40 each because I received an e-mail about a one-day sale.

Hmm, this might not be what I want then.  If they are deep enough to hide a back row then I would want them much shallower.  I want similar to what the OP is talking about where the games don't stick out and it's also not overly deep.

I have a buddy who uses the same shelves as me and he just had plywood cut to size to put on each shelf so that the games can line up to the front.  The just spray paint the wood to match the color of the shelf.

I may end up doing this as well but I'm not minding the games being recessed into the shelving.  I also like the extra space for my current gen games because some collector's editions come in packaging that is larger than a DVD / UGC case and can fit on the shelf without overlapping the front.

I'd much rather have them recessed than sticking out.

I don't think I would ever consider doubling the layers though.

If I'm going to take the time to case something I'll for sure be displaying it.

I'll post some pics once I get the other wall set up.

They are really not all that deep. I really don't feel like my games are hiding at the back of the shelf. I could see it as an issue if perhaps you didn't have the room for a shelf that stuck out and extra 6 inches though.

The white ones look sharp.  It would really make my SNES games which are in black dvd cases pop out.

I'd love to do white but it wouldn't really go with the rest of the basement.  Also in Canada the white finish is $70 as opposed to the black / brown wood finish that I have which is $100 per case.

I agree that the depth isn't a big deal and it makes them more versatile if you want to display other things on them in addition to cased games.

This is a good point.  I would probably only have enough games to fill 4-6 shelves.  I could put lots of other stuff on it and/or cool bookends (like those ones from the Mortal Kombat collector's edition...my friend got it and they look cool)

Yes, I like the option of putting other stuff on there like video game related action figures, plush toys, etc.

Speaking of bookends, I've always wanted to try and make these:

They look pretty sweet.
