Media Storage/Displays/Shelves - Need Ideas

wiggy:
Home Depot and Lowe's actually have a good amount of DIY shelf building materials that don't require tons of tools to assemble.  You can pretty much build a unit to your specs.  As much as I hate to say it, look for the Martha Stewart items.  Most of the DIY items are part of her brand  :-\

I prefer the Billy bookcases.

I think they look sharp and one bookcase can hold 232 UGCs and they look very nice on one in my opinion.

They can be a bit on the expensive side but are worth it from my experience with them.

The ones from IKEA that are currently $49.99?  I was looking at those myself but I am having trouble imagining them holding as many UGCs as you describe.  How many shelves does yours have?  The picture shows 6 but they would be adjustable I'm assuming.

Is that what Pikmin Overlord was talking about?  Having to cut 2 more shelves out for optimum space.

So 232/8 = 8 shelves of 29 UGCs?  That seems like tons of room :D

The ones I am talking about are $99.99 in Canada - they are black / brown

You can get plain black / white ones for $69.99 but I prefer the wood like finish of the black / brown ones

For these you need to buy 2 extra shelves to get to the 232 capacity I was mentioning.

You can also get extension units which are pricey at $40 but add 2 shelves which ups the capacity to 290 cases per shelf.

Here is a pic without the extension units as I don't have the cieling clearance to go any higher.

I currently don't have many UGCs on them and am using them for more current stuff but I like the overall effect.  One shelf will hold 29 UGCs.  29 * 8 = 232.

The middle shelf is the same as the 2 outer shelves just less wide as the wall couldn't fit 3 larger ones.

I'm now in the market for 3 more large shelves for the other wall that will eventually house my NES, SNES, and N64 collection in UGCs and Double-Wide DVD cases (prefer these for SNES games).

The overall solution pictured was about $370 including the extra shelves and finishing my other wall will be about $450 but I plan to use these things forever so I don't consider the cost to be too high.

Plus having the collection neat and tidy keeps the girfriend happy.  Shes ok with collecting as long as it's kept neat.  My OCD with wanting everthing organized makes it easy to comply ;D

Pikmin Overlord:
The shelves mojoskateco is talking about seem to be the same ones I was talking about. It does hold about 29 UGCs per shelf. They are also deep enough to double up on each row, if you needed to. I will upload a picture of my shelves in the next couple of days, in case there are any descrepencies.

If you are interested, don't rush out and grab them immediately. Instead, sign up for the IKEA e-mail newsletter. I picked up two white Billy Bookcases for about $30 or $40 each because I received an e-mail about a one-day sale.
