IMO, SEGA consoles aren't a smart investment when the games are easily available through other methods. I used to have a Dreamcast, but since the only games I really liked were Sonic Adventure 1+2, you can imagine what I did with it after I got a Gamecube. :/

So many more amazing games on the Dreamcast.  IMO it's the most under-rated, short lived console.  It was streets ahead of even the PS2 - if they had carried on commercial development I think we would have seen some truly stunning stuff running on the DC.  Add to that the ability to play all the beats of rage and other homebrew so easily - every household should have a DC! (or 3 - haha)

The vast majority of games/systems I've gotten rid of over the years I've regretted. I just like having a library of stuff I guess.

Btw, as an SNES kid growing up, exploring the Sega library for the first time has been a really cool experience. The Genesis has SO much great stuff outside of Sonic.

Actually, the DC is the ONLY Sega system that I LOVE!  LOL!

Now about that Sharpie avatar...

edit: Got you covered ;)

Woo! I'm an art major, so I know way too much about sharpies....
Almost too much >.> <.<

This is Chubby; He hates Game Case Sellers who steal our artwork to profit their lazy kingdoms.

But he sure loves his Shaq Fu!

Oh, right.

OP: If collecting is getting in the way of achieving what you want in life, then by all means, stop. It's important to keep a balance.

Also, as far as owning tons of games you rarely play, personally I simply like having them there when I need them. PLUS IT'S COOL LOOKING.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection's got ya covered, or if you just want the Sonic stuff, Sonic Mega Collection. I happen to own Mega Collection GCN+XBOX and Ultimate Genesis. The entire library on one disc! lol

Dangit AppleQueso, ITS NOT COOL TO HAVE GAMES YOU DON'T USE, HUSH YOUR MOUTH OR YOUR GONNA BE APPLEPIEQUESO.

(Dang wiggy you even got the exact sharpie type I use, except I only use black. For other colors I use crayola markers((My Oracle of Ages cart looks bitchin')))

Kelly,

You almost have a complete N64 set.  You gotta complete it man!

Either way I hope you don't sell anything and just take a hiatus from collecting for bit.

I go through stretches where I don't buy stuff for a while but then I find a few games, print off some covers, case some games, and get back into it again.

For me always collecting was and is about the action and suspense of getting games for good prices.

I also always make a complete list of all the games I want for a system when I get it new.

I'm close to 2200 games (no duplicates) and I am still having a blast (just bought about 7 games today).  I guess it''s different for me due to the fact that I am only buying games that I find under $3.  I understand that Kelly bought virtually close to EVERY Not For Resale game and all I could think was how much it was costing.  In the end, I think this thread proves that point.  Not to state that I saw this coming months ago, but I really did see this coming.

The only gave I have really shelled out money for is my Donkey Kong Country Competition Cart, and I am not planning on buying anymore massively expensive rare games in a while.  I collect now, so that one day I can sell later.  This sounds silly, I know.  However, I am not spending $25 for a game that is worth $26 on the market.  I find the ones that have been miss-priced or garaged saled for $1.99 when the retail is $5+.  Found Alundra, Legend of Mana, Legend of Dragoon, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes, Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC), John Madden 1993 Championship Edition (Rental Only: Complete) all for $1.99 in various locations.  Someday I might make $0.01 from each!

I have virtually no problem with my collection (other than... running out of space to store...) because I know if/when the time comes that I am financially unbalanced and need some cash, there is a majority of my games that will sell in a heartbeat.

I wish the best to you Kelly.

Hey, I said rarely play, not never play. But even then, I'll admit having something like the CD-i Zeldas or something would be really neat to own, even though i'm sure i wouldn't actually play them much. I also don't actively go for those ultra-rare collector showpiece type games that have little-to-no actual playability value ( like Nintendo World Championships or Star Fox Super Weekend) but if I ever like, somehow stumbled onto something like that in the wild, you bet I'd hold onto it and display it proudly.

Look, man, Ultimate Genesis Collection is really cool, don't get me wrong (I even kinda used it as a bit of a checklist for some games I'm wanting), but where's the fun in compilation discs? If I were going that route, I'd probably settle for Virtual Console instead of actual carts for NES.  :P

Besides it doesn't have any of the great 3rd party exclusives. No Herzog Zwei, No Rocket Knight Adventures, No Shadowrun (SNES Shadowrun is a completely different game) , No Castlevania Bloodlines, etc. Plus there's the Genesis controller, specifically the official 6-button pad. I friggin' love that controller.

I also always make a complete list of all the games I want for a system when I get it new.
I generally do this too, though there's always those gems you learn about and discover along the way.

I only collect games I intend to play. SNES is my main collecting console I have about 120 carts for it but I dont collect crap only games that were well reviewed. Other systems well I have more than a dozen but some systems I will not buy games for. For example I have an xbox with halo 1 and 2, never played either yet and wont buy anything else for it. Saturn, PS3, Wii, DS, GBA, DC all under 15 games for each with no intention of spending anything more on those systems. PS1 and PS2 I have more for (50 each maybe) but only intend to add scrolling shoot em ups to those in the furture.

When it comes to what I spend, ive never spent more than £20 on any game (except brand new current system games like GT5) and probably never will, getting a bargain on ebay or a pawn shop is a big part of the experience for me. It's all about self control.
