So I've got some PS1 and Dreamcast games that I'm thinking about making new cases for, but I'm not sure which case I should go with.

This one?

or this one?

Which one should I go with, are there any advantages or disadvantages to either of these?

Depends if you have multidisc games and how thick your manuals are for your games.
If you have a bunch of RPGs (multidiscs are common) then the 8-disc polly cases are probably better suited for you. Personally i use the 8 disc poly cases.  The 8-disc poly cases are great but they are bigger than the the 10mm cases. The wider spine does allow for a bigger easier to see spine logo BUT will take up more space on the shelf.

You could go with a combo of Single and quad disc cases and be able to do multi-disc games in the same.

Shenske's got the pros/cons for the 8-disc poly pretty well.

Pros for the CD Sized poly are it's smaller size which takes up less space, and they're a little (not much but every little bit helps) cheaper than the 8-disc poly cases. On the con side, thicker manuals may not fit into a quad case, if it's full of 4 discs too and as Shenske mentioned while the cd poly cases are smaller, the 10mm spine means less real estate for logos, where the 8-disc poly is a 15mm spine.

Overall all of the options (the 2 you linked to and the additionally one I added) are all poly cases, so they've the same durability advantages of plain jewel cases.
Additionally we've got threads going for both the 8-disc and CD poly cases so should have some cover options available for both.

The cases are actually vastly different in size. Lined up next to one another it would be extremely off.  The 8 disc poly case is both thicker and wider than the 10mm versions.  It would be like having psp cases next to dvd cases ... they're pretty different from one another.

If I recall they're taller too -- 5.2inches (1560 pixels) vs 4.723 inches (1417 pixels)

i agree with shenske and velmeran, it all depends on your needs. If your trying to save on space, the 10mm polys are your best bet. If you have a lot of multi-disc rpgs with thick manuals, go with the 8-disc polys.

Personally I use the 10mm ones because I only own 3 games that have 3-4 discs with thick manuals(the 3 final fantasy games), but i have no problem with just keeping the manuals off to the side..... and yes, i do need the space too. as for the bigger games like the working designs collectors sets, i just keep them in their original packaging because they look so damn awesome.

I'm leaning towards the single case but I noticed that the site only hosts the 8 poly cases and those have different dimensions. Should I just download those and resize them or do I need to request some covers in the single case thread?

The single cases are a relatively new discovery, so we are just starting to make covers. Velmeran is setting up topics in the DVD case sub-forum, and if you have some requests you can make them here: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=10463.0

Or if you want to try your hand at converting a few of the 8-disc Poly case covers to the new CD Poly Case templates, you're welcome to. It's mostly a matter of resizing parts of it.
