Game stop sells component Gamecube cables for 5$, compare that to 70$ and up online. You have to go in-store to get them and few stores have them but if a local store does not, just ask to get it shipped to that store. I orders 2 to mine, I have not got them yet but will update when I do.

On a added note, there has not been spam on these forums for a while, Nice job moderators.

Those $5 component cables usually end up being Wii component cables or Gamecube s-video cables.

If it was that simple to just have them shipped around, everyone would do that.

I've never actually gotten this to work, Game Stop seems to think component and composite are the same thing.

Believe it or not, there's quite a few folks out there who'd love to have their GBPlayer running in 480p.

Besides, if there was no demand for these cables, they wouldn't be selling for $70 now would they?

Please don't compare the original component cables with 5$ third-party ones.

Build quality is 100% better on the original componet cables.

It's the same with PS2/Xbox Component cables. I owned third party cables and they all sucked then I went and invested in some monster component cables and wow those are really nice!

Never save money on cables they are crucial for picture quality and long-life depends on quality too!

There are no third party component cables for the Game Cube.  It simply never happened.

The 'cube was designed so that the Analog to Digital converter chip was actually *in* the cable. It cut costs for the 'cube and increased costs for the cable (which is why it was so expensive to buy in the first place and why no retailers wanted to carry it).

I never knew GameStop would ship stuff from store to store upon request.

Using the method of checking their online site for store pick up, back in the day, I managed to get 4 of my 5 sets of cables this way.  However, as has been suggested here, it wasn't uncommon to find the wrong thing labeled as GCN Component Cables.  You'd find composite cables or the third-party three-in-one cables that were component/composite for the XBox, PS2 and GCN (but the component wouldn't work on the GCN).  I never found the Wii cables labeled that way, but the Wii was still new at the time.

This is the web page I'd use to locate them:
http://www.gamestop.com/accessories/gamecube-n64-component-cable-used/32149

Anytime I was driving anywhere in particular, I'd pull up stores along my path and check to see if they had any in stock. :D

There are quite a few folks within really small, dorky communities like ours, but we're taking about a really small group of people.  And Bob explained why the price is as such. Besides, we all know that something produced in low volume that has some value to collectors will often remain pricey. That's why Dreamcast broadband adapters are still expensive. It's not because "everyone" wants them, but there are folks like us who will pay the premium.

Monster cables are WAY overpriced for the features they have, plus the company engages in shady practices (such as bullying small cable manufacturers into paying licensing fees, even if said small cable manufacture isn't actually infringing on any of Monster's patents)

High quality cables are important sure, but hell even monoprice sells nice, gold-plated cables and whatnot for a fraction of the price that monster tries to rip people off at. Telling people to "never save money" on cables is silly to me, all you need is simply to avoid those cheap, poorly-built 3-in-1 type 3rd party ones.

For us, yes.  I guess I just mistook your "everyone" for a larger chunk of the gamer population ;)

Close, but the action was more like swinging Gigaton hammer resulting spammer splattering in to gory mess.
