Also, be sure to take advantage of the "warps" that appear on a regular basis - you can extend your health over 100 with the pickups inside. Turok isn't the hardest game, and is totally do-able without cheats! The sequels, on the other hand, are another story :-\ --- End quote --- Turok 2 and 3 are a real bitch, huh? So hard they're not even fun? --- End quote --- Well, 3's a lot more playable than 2 - more save points, less confusing level design, and more straightforward weapon choices. The development team for Turok 2 really went all out, trying to make the most sophisticated shooter on the market. They did a great job with the graphics engine (running the game in high-res letterbox mode on an HDTV still looks great, even today) but "the fog" makes it hard to see too far in the distance, and the gameplay was pretty out there. Save points were literally hours apart, and while there were a nice amount of checkpoints, you had to dedicate a huge block of time to the game if you hoped to get anywhere in it. Also, the levels were mazelike-and-a-half, and even an old Doom vet like me still wound up running around in circles, especially in the last few levels. The worst part of the game, I thought, was the weapon design. They really went for the "ewww" factor - one weapon releases a "meatseeker" that bores into enemies' heads, while another boomerang-like weapon always returned to Turok covered in bloody chunks. Even the more conventional weapons, like the flamethrower, were hard to use, and had very limited ammo. Turok 2 was a fantastic achievement, but it is a game that is truly for the most hardcore of hardcore gamers. Cheating makes the game a lot easier, but if you want to beat it "legit," you have your work cut out for you! In response to what you said, yes, I think that Turok 2 is so hard, it's not even fun. The good news is that the game is cheap, and if you really want to try it, you can find a copy online for less than $5, easy. Turok 3 is a better game, IMHO, and though it costs a little more, it has more in comon gameplay-wise with the first game than the second game did. It's more difficult than the first game, but not impossible - if you want more Turok, I'd recommend the 3rd game over the 2nd, any day of the week. Just make sure you have an expansion pak! |

I used to own it, and I remember buying it pretty soon after it came out. In a nutshell, it's the Quake III: Arena of the Nintendo 64 - made for multiplayer, but with a simple, tacked-on single-player mode, too. Goldeneye or Perfect Dark blows it out of the water, but if you have three buds who have to have their Turok fix, it's an alright way to go! |
