Fuck the age of downloads!  I was pissed when they yanked the Ninja Turtles off of Virtual console and the xbox 360 arcade / psn.  Now, look at this:

I think we need to start an anti-downloading movement!  We should demand tangible games!

This sort of this thing only really concerns me when they try to take it away from my after having already purchased it, refund or not. I mean, when you think about it, hard copies don't stay on sale forever either.  It is a bummer, but it's not really that much different than buying physical copies except that you can buy them used (which the gaming industry has fought harder than ANYONE).

The PSP Go was Sony's not-at-all-veiled attempt at moving to a strictly vapor format and obviously the world isn't ready to give up their hard copies.  Thank god, because that'll mark the end of buying new games for me.

Personally, I've semi-boycotted downloadable games for years (I say semi because I'm occasionally compelled to purchase a game that doesn't exist in a tangible format).

All that said, I'm on board for a 100% boycott if it'll help ;)

You just made my point.. there is a huge difference!  You can always buy tangible games used on ebay.  Pulling Sonic games is crazy.  And if your system ever breaks?  You are fucked on a console like the Wii.  Even if Nintendo transferred your downloads it would be to the new little wii that doesn't allow use of GameCube controllers.

Well, my method is such; if I can buy it in a tangible format, then that's what I do.  Stuff like classic Sonic games on the Wii are something that I'd NEVER pay for yet AGAIN.  I purchased them brand new 20 years ago, and again on a Sonic collection disc for the 'Cube 10 years later, and I'll be damned if I'm buy those same games a 3rd time.

I get why it's upsetting, but in the case of ancient Sonic games, I just can't get all bent out of shape.  It's not entirely unreasonable to simply stop selling something for one reason or another.

Are you implying Sega somehow lost the license to Sonic? Or that Nintendo lost the license to distribute it? Because other Sonic games aren't being pulled.

The only game ive bought digitally in years is Trackmania 2 Canyon, and that was only because they don't sell physical copies of it (files are burnable to dvd though). I refuse to pay for DLC (hate that term), wont entertain subscription games and would never buy a digital copy of something that has a physical counterpart. It's just companies trying to control us, they can shove it where the sun dont shine.

Those games would probably come back to life... as a collection in one package like they did before.
Sonic Megacollection, Sonic Gems, Sega Genesis collection...

I cannot believe SEGA would do this.  I mean seriously, it is just lost profits!  Why the hell would you take them off?  Anybody could buy a Wii at anytime!  And it's not like tangible copies where SEGA has costs to make the cartridges or game discs!  Just stupid, stupid, stupid!

im happy to say ive never downloaded anything for any of the three consoles, and i refuse to 'update' my games with DLC, partly because my internet sucks, but also, if they (developers, etc) thought a game would sell why not make a disc?, loads of shit games came out for ps1, xbox, etc
as for DLC why not just include this extra content on the disc?, its not as if they just turn on their computers and this extra stuff has appeared overnight!

It appears that the removal of the few Sonic games from the Virtual Console is only affecting Japan. Why hasn't been stated yet, but Sega has assured those outside of Japan that they will not be affected.

We obviously don't know why they were pulled, and speculating won't get us any closer to an answer.  Hell, for all we know they'll be back up in a month.

Maybe not, but speculating is kinda fun.  I think it's because of this:

http://www.dudegurlz.com/index.php?page=home&id=329

Nintendo is trying to curb the increasing fan craze over Sonic.  They are hoping yanking the games for the short-term will solve some problems.
