Yeah, don't be a douche.  My idea is a fun joke, no one gets hurt (unless you get that crazy customer who really wants the copy of Super Mario 64 for the 360... see, fun cases like that!)

But what if some poor child sees that and begs their mommy for it, only to be told it doesn't exist?

It's simple, really; just honestly ask yourself if you'd want to be on the receiving end of such a prank. We should all do our best, to treat others as we would want them to treat us.

Again I'll state, what I do is an act of desperation. I don't intend to hurt anyone.(In fact I hope the games I traded are NEVER sold).

I may share some of my fakes with friends and family members, so that they too can get some extra cash to help them out. Sadly I know a good few people who are financially crippled, such as my own brother... :(

One should never be desperate to go well out of their way and try to scam someone like that.

If your really hurting for cash that much, maybe you should take a second look and try to prioritize a little better. Pretty sure gaming would be at the bottom of my list.

lol.  Hell yes I would.  A mindless prank like this would be great.  It's not like the phone calls that actually prevent you from performing your job and tie up the phone lines.  It's not like you have to clean up a mess if someone throws glitter around the store.  You don't have to call security or the police because someone's disrupting business or knocking over magazine racks.  Short of the insane customers like I mentioned before, this is a pretty harmless prank and I'd laugh my back end off if someone was to sneak a Halo 4 for the PS3 onto the shelves of the store I work at.

As for those insane customers... if they're not going crazy about the face copy of Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat, they're going to be *****ing about something else...

Changing or altering a game box's cover art can be considered sabotage of property, and you could be sentenced to minor jail time.

In fact, I once played a prank on my 11th grade teacher. I took her car keys and threw them in the trash can. That next Monday, I was arrested and sentenced to jail for "Theft by taking".

I would advise not to play a prank you THINK you can get away with, because let me tell you it's funny the first few minutes but when the consequences hit you, oh man...

This coming from someone who openly admits fraud on the previous page?

lol.

You'll be very hard pressed to find much in the way of precedence within the US legal system of any criminal penalty for printing a parody cover, putting it inside your own DVD case and leaving it inside of a store.

See: Culture Jamming a.k.a Shop Dropping a.k.a. Reverse Shoplifting.

This kind of stuff has been going on since the 50's/60's.

^^^ .... Oh ok, that's ok then - sorry for anyone who said anything against your actions on this thread......ummm, no.  Are we supposed to have pity on you or your family for committing crimes and fraudulently trading in fake games to gamestop for money?  This DOES screw over future customers, and is an overall crappy thing to do.  There are other legitimate ways to get money and I doubt you will get much sympathy on here for these types of action.  I can't believe you'd even have the audacity to admit this on here.

I don't claim to know your situation or anything about your personal life, and I can't judge you as a person based on this one thread, so I don't mean this in a hateful way.  But I wanted to clarify something - DESPERATION is when you do things because you have no other choice.  I would guess, that since you are a member of this site, that you probably have a video game collection.  So if you were really DESPERATE for money, instead of selling fakes to gamestop (or through your family), I'm guessing you still have legitimate games that you could sell either to gamestop, or if older games, online or on craigslist.  I'm sure there are other, legal, things that could be done to make extra cash to meet your personal needs.

I'm not saying you're a horrible person, but what I am saying, is that it bothers me to see your post, justifying your actions with the fact that you or your family were desperate or really needed cash.

I wish you the best in the future, but don't pull the desperation thing on me.

Proof positive that Gamestop doesn't care what you trade in, be it bootleg or whatever.(Pretty sure few, if any, of the original traders got caught due to negligence)

No.  All that proves is they did not catch the forgery in time and / or still don't know its a forgery.  If the employee catches it in time when they know only one person has traded that game in since that one showed up they can nail you.

You really don't think anyone has been caught?  Just trust me when i say people do get caught for this kind of thing. I don't know how specific i can go (i'm not risking my job to 1-up some random guy on the net).  I have personally seen the process

EDIT:
Even if you set aside the legal trouble you are risking it just flat out immoral.  Do you not have a conscience?  You would knowingly be screwing over another person. Not only another person but screwing over a person just like you with the same common interests.  Maybe i was just raised differently but you should never take advantage of another person.

To put it bluntly: You have to be a major douche to do something like this.

Desperation, especially when you're talking about video games, not something as necessary as food or shelter, is absolutely no defense against criminal activity. Intent, in your case, is also not a defense for your crimes in any way, shape, or form.  Your lack of intent is very obviously a result of neglect (as in you failed to consider how your actions could potentially hurt others, versus simply being ignorant of what harm your actions may cause).

Neither of your excuses are valid. Absolutely 0% valid.

Stop trying to defend your actions as if you'll get pity (which is something that nobody should seek anyway) or any sort of remotely positive response regarding your blatant criminal activity.

Okay, guys...  I seriously need to go back and correct something from earlier.  This was a huge error and cannot go uncorrected...

Yeah, don't be a douche.  My idea is a fun joke, no one gets hurt (unless you get that crazy customer who really wants the copy of Super Mario 64 DS 3D for the Nokia NGage... see, fun cases like that!)

That's better.
