Spoof Wars, my Star Wars fan film series
(1/1)
TyrannicalFascist:
Since I've now been here over half a year and gotten to know some of you a bit, I wanted to give a plug to the gigantic project my friends and I have been and are working on: Spoof Wars.

Spoof Wars is a Star Wars parody fan film series that my friends and I started back in 2002. Back then, when we were in high school, we saw the Atomfilms Star Wars Fan Movie Awards, and thought we might like to try to make a Star Wars spoof. It was a hugely ambitious project for us, and after a release in 2003 and a longer 45-min Special Edition release in 2004, we finished the first entry Episode XII: The Dubious Maneuver (primarily a parody of The Phantom Menace, with some aspects of Attack of the Clones and A New Hope). We had a couple We had a whole trilogy planned, but couldn't find the time or money to finish them. Because of that project, I decided to pursue a career in media and writing. In 2007, some of us reunited to do two short spin-offs (originally for a college class). We finished the first one, Typhon, and released it, but we decided to overhaul and expand the other, after seeing WIP versions of it, and seeing how much we'd improved, everyone else came back and we added two more "short" 25-min follow ups on top of that one.

Fast forward to today, and we are working on wrapping up our 3 "shorter" films, and even more important, we decided to finally do the two sequels we had wanted to do back in 2003 - only combined into one film, and adjusting the story and humor for the more recent additions. We just recently launched our website SpoofWarsFilms.com, and we've added a new weekly series of short sketches centering around a new character, called The Rigors of Mortuus.

Our movies originally started as a Star Wars parody, and our original movie was admittedly.....kinda cheesy and bad. But since then we've learned a lot and have improved our costumes, acting, choreography, humor, camera, special effects and story. Now our movies parody all sorts of things, particularly blockbuster movies and things that we grew up with in the 90's and early 2000's.

Of particular interest to you guys may be that we are implementing a lot of retro video game references in our big sequel, which is called Spoof Wars Episode XLVII: The Plot Strikes Back (primarily a parody of Revenge of the Sith, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi). In addition to appearances by a Virtual Boy, NES Zapper and potentially an Odyssey 2 (among others), our Darth Vader character, Dharth Tyrannical-Fascist, wears a bunch of customized video game gear including a Sega Genesis Model 2 chest box with controller on his belt, a Game Gear charger pack, NES controller, and probably my personal favorite - an NES Power Glove repainted jet black as his mechanical right arm. There's also more video game references in all of them, from the Contra code to Star Fox.

We've gotten ambitious again and bringing our entire project full-circle, we're working on preparing a shortened 5-10 minute extended trailer version of The Plot Strikes Back that we intend to submit to this year's Atomfilms Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge. When we do get it submitted in May or June, we'll need all the votes we can get!

So anyways, I just wanted to share this huge series that we've been working on, coming up on 10 years now. I'd love it if you guys check out our website, check out our Wiki and Facebook pages, and watch our weekly series, The Rigors of Mortuus, which premieres new episodes every Friday. I'd definitely recommend checking out Typhon, as it's one of our favorites. You can also check out the trailer for our 3-part series called Tales of the Jebi here: http://blip.tv/spoofwars/spoof-wars-tales-of-the-jebi-teaser-trailer-2011-5906409
