Of course you'll need a SCART to YUV transcoder as well and there's another $50 plus whatever cabling you need. I just use a SCART to YUV transcoder at the moment while i'm saving up for a XRGB Mini, fortunately my TV has no issue with the low res signal (aside from treating it as 480i, resulting in a very minor "shimmer" to the picture). Just buy a cheap CRT and save up some cash for a decent scaler like the Edge or the XRGB Mini, the Edge is the less complicated option for sure. --- End quote --- So right there he is already up to at least $100, then a bunch of crazy cables... His choice, but I'd wait for the EDGE. It helps ALL consoles by the way, even Wii, and PS3. Also component consoles like PS2 and GameCube. --- End quote --- why would you run a PS3 through an upscaler? its native HD. I'll wait for the edge to drop in price, till then.....cheaper alternatives shall be needed. --- End quote --- The EDGE has dropped, it was $700... and you would run the PS3 for a few reasons. #1 - to have all your consoles plugged into a single unit (the edge) thus having one cord (an hdmi cable) going in your TV. #2 - The edge puts out up to 1080p, PS3 only does 720p. #3 - A few HDTVs do give a lag problem EVEN with the PS3, the edge eliminates this problem. |

Yeah, that's the plan. I've been reading up here and there about upscalers and such. The Edge is way out of my price range for now, but I'll be trying to sock away some funds each month to save for one as I fully plan on adding some additional vintage consoles in the future. For now, I'm just gonna hunt down a decent CRT TV, that should last mea a year or two before I can afford the upscaler. I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know any online sites that still sell new CRT TVs in the 13"-19" range at not too crazy of a price? |

And they usually won't ship, you'll have to go pick it up. I don't know where you live but gas is $3.85 a gallon here and the TV is going to cost you money too. Just hold off dude, the more wasted shit you buy like CRT TVs and scart cables, the longer it will take you to save for an EDGE. |

There are several Ps3 games that go up to 1080p, and the ps3 outputs 1080p just fine when in the menus or watching blu rays. My Genesis via that scart to component transcoder looks quite nice on my HDTV. Probably a bit better than my SNES even, very crisp. No issues whatsoever on my TV with a 240p signal. Besides, those scart cables and the transcoder could be used in conjunction later with a DVDO Edge to get an even nicer image. Hardly a waste in the long run. If you want a CRT, hit up garage sales or pawn shops. $20-50 should get you something pretty nice and they'll probably even be willing to knock the price down for you. I wouldn't even bother trying to find a new CRT, especially if your plan is to replace it down the road. |
