These ideas are good but they don't take into account how much work it would take. This site is run by guys in their spare time, not a full time team of dedicated moderators. Unfortunately the only thing to do is inform sellers where they can be had for free and otherwise just suck it up and take the slap in the face.

Holy Cow! They used the Mickey Mouse Box I made last week! Actually, if someone can make money off my work... more power to them. I should be so lucky.

I was about to post that yesterday, he has a couple of other listings of your work and others. I am subscribed to his youtube page (http://www.youtube.com/user/GameHunterVideos) and decided to check out his ebay page and noticed that he was selling everyone's gamecase artwork. Damn shame...  :-\

Son of a bitch.... I really liked his videos, but I cant in all good conscience watch his video and be subbed to him while he steals covers from this site and sells them.

I would pay you guys for some printed out covers in universal game cases since I'm not rich enough to get a good enough printer and about 20 UGC cost me about 80 euros already (102 USD) minus shipping, you get the idea why I'm thinking about this.

I wouldn't buy them from Ebay though, I'm not giving these people my money and especially not for the ridiculously insane high prices they sell them for.

So if anyone would be interested, I might be doing this in about 3 weeks.
I'm willing to pay more than it has cost you to make them ofcourse.

  • Think off-center.
If you really want to stop this it's simple. Stop making covers and stop sharing them. The second you publish it some one some where is gonna use it no matter how hard you say you worked on it. That's the truth I came to realize. You can't do much more but waste energy on it.

Man I absolutely hate people like this >:(
I see people doing this sort of thing a lot on deviantart (only with artwork instead of covers), but when someone does it for profit, that's just the worst.
You guys put a lot of time and effort into making good covers, and then this guy just comes along and tries to profit from it >:(
I really hope you guys find some way to at least prevent this in the future, even if you can't make him stop selling the stuff >:/
(honestly I'm not sure what can be done ><)

I think the problem with just making people have to me a member is everyone will just join and do the same thing.  If you did something like a "Trial" period where someone high up on the site has to grant you the privilege to download the covers by meeting certain requirements might stop some of these thieves.

thats what i was thinking, a month or 2 before you can download, or so many posts, like 50 or something, before you can get to the downloads, or just remove the download section entirely then have a minimum post count before your allowed to PM, at which point you would PM the mods for any covers you wanted.

something like this to make it a bit more of a hassle to get to the covers, it might put serious, "real" members off, but hopefully the leeches would be put off too...

Still, there's the problem that people like myself will have, which is that NONE of my covers are on the site in the proper sense, so I'd have to self police, and so would a lot of others.  It would make sharing covers on the forums a headache.

I'll throw in my two cents... For myself, once I make a cover and put it out there. It's a gift. I don't care what is done with it afterwards. There are a few things that can be done.

The site can have a disclaimer... Something like this: The Cover Project is a site who's work is created as a free service from gamers by gamers. Our honor system dictates that covers are not to be downloaded and sold for profite.

Or we can put a small Cover Project water mark at the back of the box that can be easily removed by those with photoshop skills... which is everyone that's creating the covers in the first place.

I can easily use paint and the rectangle section tool to delete and fill with black.  A two year old could do that =X

Buuuuut, if you put a copyright disclaimer in said box, then you'd have a lot more ability to argue that the work is yours when dealing with eBay and whatnot.

I couldn't care less if folks here were to erase a copyright notice on my work if it were for their personal use.  Hell, I'd help them do it if they couldn't do it on their own.  But I have never, and won't ever, license any of this work for profit.
