Where will you put the shoulder buttons, what will the contrast wheel do and what is your plan for the link port?

Right on the back just outside the flat area on the rounded edge. I'm currently trying to use the actual R and L buttons from the SP.  They seem like they'll fit really nicely back there with some cutting, obviously.

You're dead on with the contrast knob.  Was just gonna eliminate the link port, but then that seemed like the perfect place to add that back on.  Also modding the headphone jack so that it works too.  The only unused port with be the GB AC adapter port.  I can't think of a good use other than power LED, but I've got other plans for that. I'll prolly just make a plug for it or just leave it be.

And of course the charge port will go in the GB link port spot ;)

Thanks man!

So, I'm working on the GBA back light mod instruction manual.  Ugh, a ton of work.  I think it'll be worth it in the end, plus the guy that makes em for me will have a nice looking manual with the original Chinese text for his own purposes :D

Here's a little preview.  Trying to make it fun, clean, and easy to follow.

Sweet. I'll even supply donors for most of it. GBA internals, GB shell, GB cartridge, etc. I would prolly have about 70% of the parts if that makes it cheaper/easier.  :P

The frontlight doesn't work on the GBA I have though. Can you buy new frontlights? Or will that be a problem?

Wait, you want a Gameboy like I'm building?  I mostly talking about front and back light mods.  I'll gladly do one-off stuff, but the price will go up significantly.

As an FYI, I probably have about 10-15 hours in this thing already, and at least a few more to go.

Hey that's a great start to the instructions! If it's just a minimal amount of soldering involved, maybe I can buy a kit and get my engineer friend to help me solder it.

Have you made or seen a GBA with the backlight that has one of the semi-clear shells, like Glacier? I ask because I don't really want to mod my original, but I have a semi-clear one that I think would be awesome as my backlit version. I just want to make sure the light doesn't spill out of the screen area so much that it's distracting.

Also, that GBA in a DMG is freaking awesome... I'm very anxious to see how that turns out.

Just ONE solder point ;)  It is pretty tiny though :-\

I just did a neighbor's.  It looked good to me.  I'll grab it tomorrow and snap some pics.  Been meaning to anyway.

Thanks man!  I REALLY wanna get it done.  It's definitely the most complex console mod I've done to date.

Oh, Im sorry man, didn't realize we wern't on the same page. I kind of figured it would take quite a bit of time for the Gameboy to SP mod. I could do one myself, but with where I live, For me to get all the materials to make just one, It would cost me around $400 to make for myself. I dont know anyone that could help get the parts I need on the cheap.

I know your a popular busy guy, and since I'm waiting on a request that I sent the other day I won't bug you too much lol.  ;) :P

Oh man, that request PM was a doozy!  I saw it and was like "I'll just save this for a bit later.  That's gonna take a few minutes to sort through." LOL!  I WILL get back to you on it though.

Like I said, I most definitely can make another, it just won't be cheap.

It would cost you 400 for parts?!  How?  The ONLY parts that I've used so far (besides about a mile of Kynar) are the GB and SP themselves.  I got the busted GB on eBay for 4 bucks and the SP (also "broken") for about 20.

Well, the custom screen protector I would have to order, wire and all that I know is cheap but the Radio Shacks around here suck. You ask for something and they look at you like your speaking from outer space.
But I'm also talking about new tools and stuff. I really need a new soldering iron, mine crapped out on me, any suggestions? I was thinking a fine tip adjustable voltage Weller.
I would redo all those labels myself but I'm just unsure what to get printer/scanner and paper wise. I could also upload a crapload of new and better raws if i had a worthy scanner. (Like Attack of the Killer Tomatos, Joshua, River City Ransom) I just dont know how to obtain a lot of what I need or what to look for.  :(
Like I said though. I know your busy, take your time. No rush. My games are not going anywhere.  ;D
