Holy Crap!

Sort of in between the battery cover and the cart port. I tried to put them about where my fingers fall naturally when holding the GB :)

Staf:

Do those Micro faceplates have the clear plastic in front of where the screen would go or is it just a hole? Also, how much? I am looking for a replacement faceplate for my Micro. Mine has a scratch down the middle which makes gaming distracting.

It's as close to the original design as possible, so yes, it has plastic covering the screen. The guy that makes em wanted to just leave a hole, and I was like "no way", that glass screen shouldn't be exposed plus it would look like poop.

I do have to change the design slightly. The holes for the speaker are a tad tiny. It makes it hard to keep them open with the process that we use. These are basically adhesive-backed resin badges. I used to work with this guy when I worked as a vendor on a few auto enthusiast forums, and he always did beautiful work. I did custom badges for various vehicles and applications.

The process involves making a printed and cut polymer decal then adding a layer of resin on top (to seal and protect the decal). They look a little different from the OEM faceplates (see the slightly rounded edges around the buttons and whatnot), but the thickness and surface feel are great!  I've been playing my orange one a lot and if anything, it actually feels better than the original. The softer edges plus the softer nature of the resin make for a more comfortable feel, especially after long use.

The only real downside is that they aren't easily removed, and once they are, they may not go back on as nicely since the adhesive will have been disturbed. But who wants to take off their totally custom faceplate anyway, right?  You gonna put the ladybug plate back on to evoke your feminine side and impress that new gamer girl that you met las week?  Don't worry about it, she thinks ladybugs are lame and would way rather see your custom Final Fantasy micro anyway ;)

Haha!  Makes me wanna soundproof a small area in my studio just so I can do this sort of thing at 3am when I'm way to amped to sleep ;D

It's working out nicely. The whole cart port thing is the biggest hurdle by far. Literally everything else is worked out. I think I can make it work with the dual port system. Just gonna take a whole lot of very careful trimming of both the SP or original GB boards to make everything fit. Luckily I have about a half dozen extra SP 101 boards around, so I can screw up pretty badly and not be stuck having to spend more $$$. I even think I'm gonna use some GameCube X and Y buttons for the L and R triggers.  Total Nintendo Frankenmonster :D

Out of curiosity, what did you do for the cart port?  Based on what you've said so far, I presume you didn't bother with GB/GBC compatibility.

And on a totally unrelated note, the postman handed me this as I was walkin out the door this morning. Ran back in just to check it out, but no time to play just yet. I won't give away what it is just yet (don't get too excited, it's a pretty common repro), but you'll know soon enough when I get the cover/label/box art done. I think I'm gonna be working with the maker of this repro in the very near future so that Rose Colored will be able to offer repros and custom artwork :D I are teh excite!

The Micro faceplate does look fantastic. For myself, the only time I would take it off would be to replace a damaged one. No problems there! Let us know how the progress goes. You do amazing work as always.
