Wiggy, these GBA SPs you speak of aren't the AGS-101 model by any chance? I'm looking for a graphite model, but all the ones on eBay are either over priced or scratched up badly...

No, they're all 001 units. You can't strip the backlight, so I actually NEED 001s specifically.

Went to a super dorky video game swap meet/flea market yesterday. My buddy has really been into old-school GB stuff lately and wanted a copy of Bomberman GB. They had some nice copies for 10+, and this poor littile thing for like 2 bucks.

I gave it a little love for him :)

Looks nice but for me sadly labels are almost irreplacable.

You just see at first glance that this label is not retail. I use self adhesive glossy wine labels for my replacements but still you see that on small text like the seal of quality or TMs or Rs it is simply not the same as retail printed stuff. *sigh*

That really bugs me.

@Gruesome: Thanks :)

It was a fun quick project.  It always feels good doing stuff for friends.

@tiktektak: it's not my favorite thing either, but it was for a friend who isn't at all picky about it like we are, plus, that label was BEAT. Even though I wouldn't normally want a repro cart label, if that game fell into my procession, I'd make a label for myself.

What's wrong with it?

Most likely, it'll just need a new screen. Is it an original Gameboy brick?  If so, it would be pretty cool to try and retrofit a GBP screen into it.

So what I'm late big woop wanna fightaboudit?  Well the screens on a couple of my gb's are starting to crap out with these little "ink blotches" small but annoying (yes I still play them). I heard about swapping a gb pocket screen before but all my pockets work so I'm not willing to sacrifice one. Any idea of where to find one?? I'm sure it'll look great back lit.

I thought it was Fry's boss at the pizza shop ("I read about in big whoop magazine!"), but I'm guessing family guy?

eBay eBay eBay.

Search = gameboy broken

That's pretty much my number one search as of late. I hate to think that I'm telling you guys this and possibly ending up bidding against some of you, but honestly I've purchased 5 GBAs, 4 SPs, 2 NGPCs, 2 GBCs, 3 3DSs, a Pocketstation, and a Swan Crystal in the past month. I think indeed to take a portable console break anyway :P

Of the 7 "broken" portables I've purchased in the last month, only one was indeed broken (an SP that was ripped in half). The rest either worked just fine right out of the box or just needed a little cleaning.  There's no moving parts on these things, and about the only thing that really breaks on them seems to be the speakers, which doesn't even matter if you're only planning on swapping the screen.

Good luck!

lol this is what i have left from ebaying. I sold off about 5gbc and about 8-9 modded dmg-01 plus a whole box of almost 20 dmg's that really didnt work. But pretty much everything else i have bought works and that kinda does kill my sake of experimenting lol.

My desire to repair, clean and restore > My desire to experiment

I guess it comes from my auto body experience lol. Eventually I'll find that one broken gbp with a working screen and non working board.

While searching for broken Nintendo stuff on ebay look what I found

Why would someone what this? She does not have a face. And it just occurred to me, that when you put in a cartage, you are shoving it in her ass.  :-\
