Are you going to paint the actual removable shelves, or apply some type of liner to them?  It seems like the games cases would want to stick to the shelves if they are painted.

Shelf surfaces are actually spray-painted. Everything else was done with brush/roll-on latex

I'd go for a good stain / seal as opposed to paint. Covering up wood with paint always feels like a sin to me.

Two things kept me from doing that. 1) It's super dark in my basement and I was sick of it being that way, and 2) the shelving wasn't the prettiest wood.  I had to piece the far left corner together since what was there originally was installed in an era when a 1"x8" was actually 1 inch thick by 8 inches wide, and there were some areas which were slightly warped, so I had to cut some oddball pieces to finish the area plus a lot of planing, sanding, etc. just to get everything nice and even. This didn't leave the corner looking all that wonderful as bare wood.

Anyway, took a few weeks of work, but it's finally done.

That depends, if you are talking about an specific console collection or a never ending new console release (Ps24, Xbox -1 or Nintendo us) and old ones
