Thanks for all the updates Soundwave.

Once I finish the custom templates I plan on using for these cases; I'll see about setting off on a more TCP appropriate one (or several).

I don't imagine it would be too much work to take a copy of the current 8-disc poly templates and manually adjust the sizes needed and create an entirely new one -- giving credit to the initial template creators of course.

I've been keeping all of my manuals, inserts etc in a separate container across all consoles, so I'm thinking I'll be shifting a majority of my DVD/BD games over to these and doing a very similar cover style across various consoles.

your welcome :)

yea I would love to have a ps1 and white dreamcast template eventually. Sometime down the road i was also hoping someone could do a US Sega Saturn and Sega CD one too, I know they usually came in a much taller case but I think it would look cool to have them all lined up next to the dreamcast games...... plus I dont really have the room to display those long obnoxious boxes.

Well, since I don't have any of these cases on hand I've had to do some creative calculations based on what you've posted thus far soundwave, plus using Shenske's 8-disc poly case template, and Shenske's Universal DS case.

Standard CD Jewel Case and a DS case are pretty damn close to each other (possibly a MM or 2 difference) in height. Standard CD Jewel Case is about 5mm longer than a DS case.

So, based on those and everything else I believe the size for this template should be 3320 x 1370. I've printed one and it looks right, but again with no template to go own I'm using an assortment of standard jewel Case, slimline jewel case, and DS cases to go of.

If you want, go ahead and send me something to print out and I'll let you know how it fits, with photos too.

Here's a pretty generic one, more or less to test the dimensions (figure it'll save ya ink).
Has a 5 pixel border on the edges, and separating the back/spine/front portions.

First One (which when I print seems to fit perfectly around a normal Jewel Case but is only 11.067 inches in total width):

Larger One (which I haven't pritned yet but is 11.253 inches in total width):

And then here's a few previews of the uniformed template I'm going with for most of my Disc based games:

And then some of them all lined up together and showing up the spines/horizontal banner a bit more

Need to slightly decrease the Wii / Wii U logo on the front banner and then get back to the back and finishing up the spines. Spine's are nearly done just didn't have any updated .jpgs of them.

No worries; I've had family in town the last couple days so haven't had a whole lot of free time to play around. Looking around for a place to buy cheap, sturdy foam so make inserts for the PSP games. Had a piece lying around that I played with and I liked the result (assuming i'd take more time on the final ones) but can't find a shop locally that sells anything similar.

I'll be ordering cases tomorrow, just put the finishing touch on counting how many I think I'll need (50 singles, 15 quads, probably order a few extra quads to be safe)

  • Think off-center.
Nice uniformity, but my only gripe is using the PS3 font for PS & PS2. It would be cool to distinguish the older generations.

yea, the reason I ordered so many is because Im planning on using these for all of my disc-based console games that are pre-ps2. Im covering the original Playstation, Dreamcast, sega CD, Sega Saturn(US and JAP), 3DO, and TurboGrafx-CD.

I can take a look at putting "PlayStation" and "PlayStation 2" in their original font/logos on the spines and seeing what they look like.

Additionally once I finish these unified templates for myself I plan on trying to get the "official" ones a template for these sized cases, for others such as Soundwave who would prefer more retail looking covers.

Well ordered 'em today, shipping ended up costing more than the cases themselves -- but figure with the amount I ordered I should be good for a while (plus it's still cheaper than what it cost to order DVD/BD cases).

I may have found my foam inserts (for PSP games) but I'll need to get an few cases in before I can measure and confirm -- though for $5.99 I may just order it and if it doesn't work I'm not out to much. If my rough estimates are correct... I'd have enough foam to make inserts for 55 PSP games (significantly more than my current collection)

I'm definitely doing these for my PS1 and Dreamcast games, and even some of my old PC games to save room. But I'm not totally sure on Sega CD or Saturn at this point - though I probably will at some point. I don't have those systems or games yet, though I'm planning on asking for them for my birthday. Since I never had them back in the day I'm not attached to the original cases. And I guess I'd either have to go all or nothing on the games - either all of them have the original cases, or I'd put them all in these cases and keep the booklets separately. And if I get any Japanese games I'd probably want to switch over to these cases so they'd all be consistent... I guess I'd like to see how they'd look. If you make a CD or Saturn cover please post pics.

Oh man you are truly missing out on some awesome gems. I didnt have a sega cd or saturn back in the day either, but around 2 years ago or so I picked them up at a flee market and still love 'em.

As for the cases, I was only collecting complete games for a long time. Once I discovered these cases I decided to switch my collection over for a couple of reasons:

1. The original saturn cases take up sooooo much room
2. 40-50 percent of the cases are broken or cracked somewhere and its a pain in the ass to find replacements.

The're basically like bigger and more obnoxious jewel cases, even though I do like the way they look on the shelf. The way I figure, they can be better protected  and take up less room in these cases plus will be consistent with my japanese saturn games and dreamcast games, a huge step up in my opinion. All the old cases I have are in storage now with the manuals in a shoebox that I can get to easily. Its also easier to collect for the systems if you start buying disc-only games.

You make some good points. If the booklets don't fit in DVD cases, then I suppose there's no reason not to just go with these cases then. And looking on eBay, CD-only auctions are lower. Your words have swayed me!
