most of those aren't even good endings

it's like, everyone who voted on this just voted for their favorite games...

I mean SMB1? Great ending?

LMFAO -- The game doesn't even have an ending!  The princess just keeps telling to to play a harder quest!

Makes sense that the best selling game of recent times is going to get more votes and be crowned number one, after all it's the one with the most exposure in resent times.

I can guarantee that if they polled older gamers and people who no longer play VGs, the list would be very different.

In my opinion there are many other games that have way better ending.
If you have nothing to do... Don't do it here!

This is an opinionated "record," so as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't belong in Guinness world records.
That being said, this is a list of popular games. This list really had barely anything to do with the topic at hand. If you had asked what the most popular game ever was, the list wouldn't shift all that much.

Shit, we can come up with a better list than this.

I vote for

Final Fantasy X. The ending tied up many of the stories loose ends, and it had a mysterious aspect of it, like how will Spira flourish without the constant fear of Sin. Too bad X-2 had to muck it up.
My LPs Channel. Currently playing Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Resident Evil 2.

i played mother 3 once. i know its a japan only release, but there's no copyright issue if you buy the japanese import and download the translated patch
found online.
anyway, most of the story is very fascinating, criticizing the american capitalist life style but as well criticizing the socialist dictatorship. it has a really dramatic ending,
but also happy. you should definitely try it out.

sad i played it on an emulator, just not the same thing

Let's not because most video games have pretty crummy endings anyway.

Who designed the poll - marketers or researchers? From a marketing standpoint, get many people involved in your "poll" and sell more copies of your book. But no researcher would use an online poll for anything.

One of my fave endings is for "A Link to the Past", but its very long. "Ocarina of Time" had a cool ending too, but it was really sad. "Super Mario 2" had Mario sleeping, which was whimsical, and "Mega Man 3" had the (then) stunning revelation of Proto Man being Mega Man's brother.
