Help Me Sonic Fans!

This should make for a debateful thread  .  I want to play the Sonic Genesis / CD games in the order the events take place.  Obviously Sonic 1 is 1st, but when does Sonic CD happen?  Judging by the spin dash being funny, the absence of Tails and Sonic looking identical to Sonic 1, my guess is that Sonic CD is really Sonic 2.  But what about Sonic Spinball?  It came out after Sonic 2 and you could easily argue the opening scene is taking place after the events of Sonic 2 even though the instruction manual for Sonic 3 says that Sonic 3 is the sequel to Sonic 2

I'm pretty sure Sonic Spinball and 3D Blast aren't really cannon, which is to say they're not part of the main storyline.  For that matter Sonic CD might not be either.  It's a bit of a stretch since those games aren't exactly storyline heavy, and I'm not sure the original creators ever really gave it that much thought.  Neoblade's list makes sense.  The only one that I'd be a little iffy about is Sonic Spinball.  Again that seems like the logical place to put it but I'm pretty sure it's not really supposed to be part of he main story.  If you were to put 3D Blast in there, it would probably go after S&K.  It was released after S&K and there's no mention of it being a prequel anywhere, plus it has Tails and and a friendly Knuckles in it, so it would make sense that it takes place after the events of S&K. 

As for the Game Gear/SMS titles they're part of a different storyline, think alternate reality or something along those lines.

Sonic 3D Blast was definatley part of the story!  Especially since Sega cancelled Sonic X-treme and released it on the Saturn...  I love that game it is my favorite saturn game.

Sonic does not realy have a on-going story, Like Mario. Events are fairly interchangeable, other than character introductions. Sonic Generations is a bit of a paradox because it takes place everywhere. Spinball does not count as it gets mixed in with the SatAM shows or comic, same with Mean Bean Machine.  Just play them in order of release.

Well actualy, I guess play Sonic 4 after 3& Knuckles, but other than that, just play them in order.

Game is called confusingly simply Sonic the Hedgehog, and is released 2006

Sonic 06 pretty much writes itself off as not happening.
