Making covers for accessories and whatnot has become my favorite thing to do as of late.  I think they're fun because it's something new every time :)

It also seems unnecessary/redundant.  I mean, it's for playing NES games on the SNES.  It doesn't really need something to call out that it's ONLY for Nintendo ;)

Heh, I didn't even think about it. You guys are right, it is kind of redundant. I'll take it off.

EDIT - There we are:

I don't have it uncropped - what's on there is what remains. I had to redraw some and most of the left is just extended by me. Here's the original scan I had to work with. http://www.mariowiki.com/images/7/7f/Npissue52.jpg If you want you can take that and the logo-less version I put up for zakurowrath, http://www.box.com/s/8ce1cbacf1ecf4f97fce , and frankenstein together a mostly text-free version.

You know with all the talented people on here, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some kind of thread for old Nintendo Power art preservation...

Updated the links.

The N64 template will be ready soon.

I'm also working on two more templates in the series...  8)

I can now reveal those 2 new templates - GameCube and Wii8)

"But TF," you exclaim, "GameCube and Wii games have their own cases!" Well, these are not intended for the games themselves. Primarily, these will be for accessories for these systems, like cables, attachments, 3rd party controllers and other miscellaneous things you may want covered. With wiggy's guide to making double-UGCs, a lot of accessories can fit!

Here's the lineup of all 5 systems. Each has unique spine art:

-NES - desaturated art over original box's color (or a prominent color for the game)
-SNES - desaturated art over black
-N64 - desaturated art over green
-GCN - semi-transparent black over full color image
-Wii - semi-transparent white over full color image

The GameCube template is done. Admittedly, the accessories probably won't need any of the icons like Number of Players or Memory Card, but I left them in for completeness' sake. (if someone is crazy enough to want to redo all their game covers, this could be easily adapted to DVD/GCN cases). It has been added to the first page.

The Wii template is almost finished, but once again I need an identifiable symbol to go on the bottom of the spine. The one in the pic is temporary. Anyone got any ideas *cough*wiggy*cough*? A Wii Remote up close? The blue & gray rings from the commercials (like what I have now)?

How about a picture of the word Wii bowing, like in the original advertisements? That way it won't look too similar to th words up top.

Good luck! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Time for two of the "lost sequels" to Super Mario Bros.

Here's one I've had ready for a while, except for the cover art. This version is a simpler approach, akin to the alternate Lost Levels cover I made. Generally I won't be making covers for repro/hacked games, unless they are ports or recreations of real Nintendo games (Lost Levels, Star Fox 2, this, Super Mario Bros. Special). I don't know a lot about Vs. Super Mario Bros., but from what I gather it was an officially licensed arcade semi-sequel to Super Mario Bros. that incorporated levels from both the original and 2/Lost Levels. Since it's kind of a "lost SMB game", I think it deserves a cover. I originally wanted to use some kind of old Super Mario Bros art from a book or something, so that it matches the art style of the old NES game art, but until I find one, I'll release this one. http://www.mariowiki.com/Vs._Super_Mario_Bros.

Added to box.

Here's a WIP look at what I'm experimenting with for Super Mario Bros. Special. This is for a repro cart for a hack of SMB that attempts to recreate Super Mario Bros. Special, an officially licensed Super Mario Bros. game developed by HudsonSoft. It had unique levels and even introduced enemies and items not found in the original, like the hammer from Donkey Kong. The hack appears to at least recreate the levels, though it would be nice if someday someone made a more faithful hack that actually included the new enemies and items, and even the color palette, but without the weird screen-scrolling. http://www.mariowiki.com/Super_Mario_Bros_Special

For the cover art I found a pretty decent image of an old Super Mario Bros. board game by Milton Bradley, that had art that fit the style of the time. It's not finished yet, but this is an idea of how it's looking. I still need to replace the text, screens, add back character art, and cleanup the front cover art (maybe add clouds), and I'll probably change the background art & spine color some.

AppleQueso, if you get a chance to try recreating the "Special" logo, you can now see where I intend to put it on the cover.

Did you ever get to finish the Super Mario Brothers Special cover or is AppleQueso still working on the "Special" logo? I actually wanna play that game now, it's like a new Mario game for the NES, that should have been included in the All Stars collection. Also can't wait to see the N64 template up and the updated NES and SNES with controllers, etc labels :)

@Seraph Man - That could work. I'll wait and see what Wiggy comes up with, but that's a good option.

@zakurowrath - It's almost ready, save for the Special logo. I imagine AppleQueso just hasn't gotten around to it yet. If anyone else wants to take a stab at it, please do.

Does anyone know of any old Mario art that could work for VS. Super Mario Bros. in the same way as I used the Milton Bradley board game art for SMB Special? The images of Mario and Luigi are newer, so I'd like to make an alternate with art that it might have had back in the NES days. Something old and a little obscure like this would work (high res needed):

I'll be getting the N64 template up soon.

Well, at long last, here is the N64 Template.

Thanks to rgc for cleaning up and organizing it for me. I've added it to the first post, and set up all the templates and cover links like the CD Poly Case thread is set up. I also added a link to the font I use on the back text of my covers (AvantGarde Medium BT).

If you want to start making N64 covers, be sure to look at all the Number of Player and Attachment icon choices to see what's available. With any luck the NES and SNES v2 templates will be finished up soon and I will finish a few in-progress covers and update all my old covers.
