Not too shabby  :D

2 minor suggestions, if you don't mind.  1, take the contrast down on the front and rear background art.  It competes with the other artwork as it is now.  2, fix the type so it doesn't overlap the Link artwork in the lower right on the rear.

Another attempt.  Tell me what ya think! ;)

Looks perfect ;)

PHEW!  ;D

I'd love to make Super Punch-Out!! with a purple backdrop, but I can't find any other Super Punch-Out!! art... I know that the manual has great artwork inside of it though....

Also, anyone want to make MK I, II, and III, along with the NBA Jams?  ::)

Good work on the Zelda cover man, your back text and logo is a bit close to the edge though I think. Try lining it up with the left side of the barcode (or close to).

@GDubs - Great to have another cover maker for this new style! That Zelda cover looks great! I definitely like the look of it. I agree with Azarkhel, the ony thing I'd change is add more of a margin on the left so the back text isn't so close to the edge. You could also remove "Licensed by Nintendo" on the front, since Nintendo published it. I still need to go back and fix that on some of mine...

Off of your wishlist, I'm planning to tackle F-Zero and Yoshi's Island soon.

@Wiggy - Nice work on those NES logos! I'll have to try each of those out on the spine I made.

If there was an NES cover style to match this SNES one, would there be anything to the front and back? The thing is that the PAL-inspired black area and colored picture background only really work because the cover art is horizontal. Since the NES covers would be vertical, I'm not sure how it could keep a similar theme.

Still, the back could be made to match pretty easily for most of them...

The NES artwork doesn't have to be vertical, you could adapt them to the horizontal front this template looks best with. And also you could use the Japanese artwork which fits much better on the front using this template. I have a very rough picture I've been just playing around with just to see what it would look like. I think you're right TyrannicalFascist, the grey all over would work much better for the NES as here it doesn't look right:

Well...even though I said I wouldn't get to making any kind of NES version of this template, I ended up trying one anyways...  :P

I think the Japanese art could work on some games, but not all of them. Plus I think a lot of people would want the box art they grew up with. So here's my quick attempt at what it could maybe look like:

Take a closer look here: http://www.box.com/s/26ee07a28887c5994b19 and here http://www.box.com/s/eac6face1cd04939c3fe

I'm not sure what thoughts I have on them, since honestly the NES is a little before my time and I don't have a lot of nostalgia for the box art like I do the SNES and N64 (my first system was an SNES, though I played my friend's NES once in a while). Maybe the gray should be lighter - like the light gray in Wiggy's NES logo?

I'm open to suggestions and thoughts, though as I said before, this is really just experimenting - my main focus will remain on the SNES covers.

Oh I like TyrannicalFascist. Honestly the darker grey works better, I tried the lighter grey and it didn't look right to me but you could have both versions if you wanted. And you're right, some Japanese artwork wouldn't work and people like the artwork they grew up with.

I think you should have the NES version that you created as a template and let people experiment around with it since your main focus is SNES, but it looks damn good and more uniform when put on a shelf :)

For Mario 3, the Japanese art is SOOOOO much better!  I don't know why they trimmed it down to nothing for us :-\  Total weaksauce.

On a side note, SMB3 was my 1st JAP import ever.  I prolly have more nostalgia for that cover than any other game out there  :D

Also, I totally understand why you guys would want US art, don't get me wrong ;)

I totally agree with you there, the Japanese artwork reminds me alot of the game, where the American artwork is just oh, it's Mario flying. I also like the Japanese title in the Mario Brothers font with the 3 having a raccoon tail.

Speaking of that font, if anyone wants it:

See, I keep saying I won't do any of these, and yet...

http://www.box.com/s/e5928a871b467ce25878

But this gives you kind of an idea what I was thinking as far as making the background and spine color change to match each game's original box. If it had more than one color, I'd say just go with whichever one is predominant or fits best. I'll maybe tackle Super Mario Bros., and a couple repro games like The Lost Levels, Vs. Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. Special, but other than that I think I'll stay out of the NES covers for a while and stick to SNES.

Here's the template. It's not quite as perfectly organized as the SNES template, but you guys can take this as a starting point.

I think it's the fact that those few NES games you may have look lonely on the shelf without your awesome template  :P

I really like them, the fact you have the original cover art with the extra artwork in the background, gives it a special touch than just 3 TV shaped boxes on the back. I can't wait to see what the rest of the Mario games look like, you're an amazing artist. And thanks alot for the template :)
