I give up

Does this mean you're not going to make the remaining GB/GBC covers I need with a little Sheep icon on the side? :(

So - here's the deal - Similar to Sheep, I've stated my opinion - given what I feel are reasonable concerns, etc., etc.  I will now mostly bow out of this conversation.  I'm pretty much a mooch off the site anyway, so my opinion should not be the deciding factor - and I appear to be one of the small minority who thinks the way I do.

While I still stand strongly by my stance of "Allowed but discouraged", I will leave with this - IF the site is going to make a standard policy regarding individual credits on covers, then this policy needs to be stated in the various creation guides or such... somewhere on the site.  DO NOT ASSUME everyone knows the policy is there... because it never has been before - although it's never really come up, this is a pretty major change in policy and it needs to be communicated.

Only one post from me on this topic.

Credit for custom artworks designed by someone else (eg DeviantArt) = YES!

Credit for cleaning/rearanging of allready exisiting art/covers = NO!
2 + 3 = 23

No cover created by me will ever have a credit on it. I do these for fun, not notoriety. It has who created the cover in the download details on the site, that's good enough for me.

If we do decide on a universal rule for having credits on cover layouts, I don't see a 6-8 point "layout by insertnamehere" on the back as being too intrusive, but ultimately I definitely prefer to have nothing.

Guys,

I'll work with the Gurus and Admins and come up with an official policy on this so we can get it posted this week.

As an artist, I would be pretty unhappy if my name was obliterated from a piece of work only to be re-appropriated for some other purpose.  Don't get me wrong, I'm OK with my work being used for this sort of non-profit venture (for the most part), but I would insist on at least being allowed to have my name remain on my work.  That's my noob .02

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but as a collector, if you downloaded a cover and in the small print it read an URL to Deviant Art, an URL to cover project or just the persons name - would  you be offended?  And also, it could always be removed by a little bit of Paint Shop.  As a collector I wouldn't mind at all and in fact would like to look up and see some of their work at Deviant art etc. and say, 'hey, great cover - I have it on my shelf'.  Just a thought. Some covers I have printed from here have an URL and attribution on them - I've never taken it off the cover (even when they stinkin' make it too big).  If the attribution did read, 'dickface' it wouldn't get accepted into the gallery anyway, or someone would download it - remove that and re-upload it.  This community uncommonly stays organized and polices itself which is why it hasn't fallen apart into a heap mess like VGBoxART I would imagine.

My humble opinions.  *bows*

I suggested a long time ago that the downloads page have comments fields so that authors could leave credit for DA artists and the like.

I have been lurking on this site for a while and it has done wonders for my collection, so as someone who just uses these covers (and greatly appreciates them) I can see why some may want credit for their work. This may have been suggested already but I didn't read all of the posts, what about just having a stickied thread where a artist could say "hey I did this cover" That way people can praise them if they want and its not on the covers themselves.

I haven't made any game covers yet, but on some of my DVD covers, I've placed my name among the copyright info, just to let anyone who sees it know that's its for personal use only.

I'm personally agents it, unless the artist actually drew the cover art. I did hide my name on one of my first covers for the Neverhood In a screenshot and have not on any of the ones I mad after. Even If we are cleaning up the box scans, we did not actually make the art of the cover and have no reason to take credit for it, It it was a custom, like Wiggys set than yes, add a made buy credit somewhere.
