Or perhaps Mobygames with all their box art scans. What about Etsy? I see lots of functional fan-made trinkets based on numerous copyrighted works.

How are we different from those groups? What we make amounts to, at worst, functional fan art. Despite the massive paranoia, our site is not in danger. Shit this site doesn't even get money from ad revenue.

I will not dispute these.  Artists and sellers on those sites are in danger.

Despite that, this site makes copyrighted works available to the public en mass.  Money is not a factor in copyright.  That is a myth.  Thanks to a massive Youtube flame war myself and some other fellows got into, I actually sat down and studied the U.S. Copyright Law.  This site IS violating it.  The problem is that under the current enforcment measures they lack the resources to go after everyone.  SOPA will throw a monkey wrench into that unfortunately

AppleQueso:

Seriously? You think fan artists are a major concern among copyright holders?

These groups aren't in danger. Fan art has always been infringement and copyright holders have always turned a blind eye to it because there is zero point to actually actively attacking their consumers. SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA will not magically create unlimited manpower and resources, and it won't change the fact that the last thing copyright holders want to do is piss off their consumers with petty claims and shutdowns with virtually no benefit.

Either way, you aren't going to be arrested or fined for it. The worst that would happen would be that you're forced to take down your work. Believing otherwise is sheer paranoia.

We all know the reasons SOPA, etc are being pushed, and it's not because people are making fan art or selling hand-made mega-man puppets or printing covers for their game cases.

This has gone far enough. In the next 24 hours im going to give my two cents on this topic/thread. This thread will be locked down tomorrow morning.

Arseen:

NOOOO.

Having too much fun watching this now pointless arguing. ;D
there has been quiet qiute long now.
Maybe we should put up poll for should this toppic be closed now, tomorrow or never...  ;)

Anyway:
They gave us credit.
That's what we wanted for the most part.
I think that is enough.
Also provided us some covers.

Covers will be sold by someone, can't block that.
I don't really care as long as it doesn't danger our site, and we get some credit.

And after closing this topic should be moved to where the other 2 near identical topics are.
