All you would have had to do was give us credit...

True it would eat your margin...

 ;)

But yeah you've got many coverws that interest me.

If the artists here are willing to forgive and forget so will I. IT's jsut irritating to see work go un-creditied.  Anyway welcome to the site.  or back to the site as it would seem.   :)

Well i noticed 6 of the covers i made for the snes available but i dont care. It's the internet, stuff gets used every second without credit and it is not like we give credit to the original authors of the game artwork is it? Maybe GCW should have acknowledged that they use covers from here but why do we really care?

Not trying to be petty here, I'm just pointing this out:

5 days ago one of our custom covers was downloaded from our website (in the incorrect DPI) and was posted to the forums here at TCP (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=328.msg69277#msg69277) without any recognition given to the original artist (me) or where it was found besides "the web".

Of course, I have the original high resolution version and will be uploading it shortly.  Does it make me angry that our case was re-uploaded to mediafire?  Not in the least.  Before today, nobody had e-mailed me and asked that I share my works with the cover project, which I'm more than happy to do.

I can't speak for the actual artists here on the site - but I don't think the issue is that you're reprinting the covers... it's that you're charging a good amount for them.  I think everyone here recognizes the fact that A) It's the internet and people are going to take the artwork and B) the artwork is really owned by the various video game companies anyway...  The issue that there seems to be with the reselling of other people's covers is A) they put a lot of work into these and B) reselling of the various video game companies' artwork risks drawing unwanted negative attention to non-for-profit sites like this one.

Oh and in case anyone freaks out about the thought of this site closing, we have not once been contacted regarding copyright violations. We make literally nothing off hosting these covers and if push comes to shove I'll zip it all up and drop it on BT to ensure the community has a copy of all the hard work that you've been putting into this for the last 6 years.

That member in question is not an artist here, but more like a habitual requester. Again not an artist here. So yea no need to be petty.

Yeah, I can't imagine any video game company coming forth with a complaint - We're not making money from the process, we're not misrepresenting ourselves or the companies involved (heck, most all of the covers still have the complete legal text on them!)...

At *most*, I could see them launching a complaint about current-generation covers - but I'm sure they realize that the cover art isn't going to make any difference on the piracy aspect of it all.

I know that if you go on some DVD cover sites a couple can't carry covers of movies owned by FOX. One might argue though that DVD bootlegging is a much bigger problem than 'bootlegging' old games.

Once I buy a game, its cover art belongs to me as well. Sorry Nintendo, but if I want to modify something that is mine then I have the right to do so if I choose.

Yep, but then distributing it to others is the problematic part.

I think main thing bugging us was that you didn't give us credit, which your front page now does.

And adding artist information to the cover is not forbidden on our rules as such, but as the information doesn't belong to the retail cover, no cover with the said information does make to our site.

And please link the Equinox cover atleast.  I really want that. Please and thank you

Actually we found you thru ebay.

We don't sell our cases in fear of actracting unwanted attention.
I don't think we were so upset about you selling the covers, but for not getting the credit but at the same time you selling the cases endagering our site.

Like I said, artist info is OK, but it is removed before making it to the site, as it's not part of retail cover.

8)

Renews request for the SNES Equinox cover.

Oh' and why not sell your own cases?  Design a bundle and sell it.  Why not strike a deal with us?  Does no one here think of negotiation?  *sigh*

Game Case World is closing down when the cases run out, so don't fret we're exiting - someone else or many will take our place - but not us, we're winding down and we mostly do customs.  Selling these cases is not new, when we started we had three other people as competition. Being able to do custom work is our bread and butter but, we had better web skills and photography which is I guess how you guys found us.  We're pretty small to locate.  We may remain doing customs after the shut down, I don't know though now.

Just keep in mind - there will be others.  They will not contribute here.  They will not link back here.  They will not tell the public they can make cases themselves or point them here. You can get really angry then.

Just mark your work if you want it attributed for posterity.

Please - deep breath - zen - believe what you want - beware of assumptions

How would I go about sending you custom Wii covers that I could buy from you?
