Wow, time to upgrade. Photoshop 5 is really old. I'm still using CS2. Not sure if it's worth moving up.

i got it off ebay a couple of years ago for v.cheap, it prints off the covers really well but it just wont let me make any, hows CS2/5 in that respect?

I'm on CS2 myself; it was given to me by a coworker, about 6 years ago, and I've had it ever since.

I use CS5, but I only upgraded because of the content aware feature.
I would say any of the CS versions are your best bet, anything pre-CS isn't worth it.

CS5. I got the whole Production Premium at a significant discount because I'm a media student. Really you can get the discount if you're any kind of student or teacher.

I've never had any problems working with layers in CS2.

CS3 here, it doesn't matter what version you have as long as it gets the job done.

You could even start with Photoshop 7 (a.k.a. CS1). Though anything below will probably not work. I've worked on many versions of Photoshop, and the best one that isn't a resource hog looks to be CS3 (at least on Windows).

If you need some material to learn with, here are some NES games needing covers:

yeah, but there are a few games in my collection that dont have covers on the site, so id be doing those first, to fill in the gaps on my shelf, before moving on to requests/games i dont have/games that dont have covers.
i also have a long list of games that i intend to buy in the future, maybe at some point i'll look through that and check with the site to see if any of them dont have covers, (im guessing that most of the japanese games wont), if i get good enough i'd probably do covers for them as well.

just need to get a decent version of photoshop first!!
