I can't believe I forgot to mention it here, but I got a Virtual Boy for Christmas! It came in excellent condition, including the stand and foam visor, and came with Wario Land, Mario's Tennis, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer, and Vertical Force, all of which had instruction booklets, plus my dad tracked down Mario Clash with its booklet because he knew that I wanted to get all the Mario games on VB. He said he found it locally and it was all about $100 total.

I'm actually really surprised that the VB isn't as bad as I'd always heard. The games are decent and it all kind of has a novelty that I think is pretty cool. Even my friends have asked to play it every time they stop by... We've also written it into our Star Wars parody fan film as a joke involving how our "Sith" got their bloodshot yellow eyes. :P

Part of the reason I bring it up here is because I blame you guys and the nature of this site for encouraging me to organize and even expand my retro gaming collection! I've been tracking down games that I never had but wanted as a kid, and games and systems that I stupidly sold/traded in or had stolen from me (as was the case with my PSone and GBC during a garage sale). I'll probably get other systems I never had growing up, like 32X/Sega CD, Sega Saturn and Dreamcast.

I even ordered the red DS cases for my VB games, though I ordered enough for all 14 American games plus extras in case I mess up the cutting. I'm considering getting most or all the American-released VB games, but are there any other games for the system you guys think I should track down first?

Welcome to the world of hordering, retro collecting. :D

Yeah I like my Virtual boy, image is red, but so what, original game boy was grayish green.

Do publish this master piece. 8)

Waterworld!!!! maybe not... I have it, just haven't tried it.
Heard it's rareish and utterly crap.

Maybe 3D tetris or the Japanese V-Tetris?

And do scan your manuals.

EDIT: Jack Bros is probably the best addition to your collection.

Keep your eyes on http://www.spoofwarsfilms.com/ this weekend, we're planning to launch our new website sometime either Friday or Saturday. We have a whole series of parody movies, and we're also premiering a goofy weekly series of short skits centering around one character when we launch the site. Basically the history of this series is that my friends and I made a star wars parody in 2003/2004, and have since come back together to make the sequels we always wanted to make.

Our finale, "The Plot Strikes Back", which we are working on now, actually has a bunch of retro video game references. Aside from the Virtual Boy, our officers will be carrying repainted NES Zappers, and probably most epic of all, Dharth Tyrannical-Fascist (where I get my username from, even though I don't play that character), is basically our Darth Vader, and he's going to be decked out in video game gear: model 2 Sega Genesis chest box, Sega AC brick, Game Gear portable power adapter and Sega Genesis controller on his belt among others, and probably my favorite, a Nintendo Power Glove repainted black on his right hand (we're calling it the Unlimited Power Glove)... There's also references to several game series, most notably Star Fox, though I won't spoil those until we finish the movie. It's a pretty ambitious project (besides, we're finishing 3 other movies at the same time), but to top it all off, we're aiming to make a condensed "trailer" version to submit to this year's Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge, which will have awards at the Celebration VI convention in August.

Sure, I'll scan the manuals, I've got them for all of them exceptTeleroboxer.

Gotta disagree, I think it's pretty underrated, and is a pretty cool oft-forgotten piece of Nintendo history like the Game Boy Light or Game Boy Micro. And Wario Land is a pretty good game.  :D

Curious...  I've been intrigued by folks on here who have been creative enough to print reproduction boxes for retro games.  It would be awesome if someone could print reproduction boxes for Virtual Boy games.  Boxed games are rarer than ever and no one sells the boxes empty...

Congrats!  I, too, had a VB once upon a time, though I don't remember enjoying it much.  I had Red Alarm, Virtual League Baseball (complete and total garbage, BTW) and Teleroboxer.  The 3D effect in Teleroboxer was very impressive, but dammit if I could never get past the second guy!  Red Alarm was fun, too, but it was *way* too easy to get turned around in that game.

If I were more of a collector, I would have held onto it - I had the original box and everything, too.  KB Toys was selling it in a bargain bin for $19.99 way back when, and I couldn't resist.  Oddly enough, the bargain bin right next to that one had a stack of Atari Jaguar consoles for the same price.  Those were the good old days!  That being said, I moved across the country a few years back, and a buddy of mine offered to take the VB off my hands before I left.  He'd been pining over it for years, so I didn't mind.  I also didn't mind the cash I got for it, too :-D

Hold onto the damn thing - they're hard to find in working order!  Also, remember never to use it while in motion.  Don't play it in a car, or anything like that - it'll mess up the mirrors inside over time.  As long as you stick by that, and keep a steady supply of AA batteries (what does it use, 6? 8?) you'll get a lot of mileage out of it.  Have fun!
