I've about had it with playing my older consoles on my hdtv, they look like shit and even my upscaler only helps a little.  Of the 3 types of TVs available today, which would be the best for a guy who plays NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis?  Plasma, LCD or LED.  I don't know the difference, and to be honest I don't even know what my TV is.

I hate to break it to you, old systems will look like crap on plasma, LCD, or and LED backlit LCD. Unless you're willing to do some modding to your systems. Otherwise, again, I suggest a CRT for retro systems.

Plasmas (especially the Panasonic Vieras) play a lot nicer with SD signals than LCD and LED tvs from what I understand.

Either way, like I said in the other thread, with HDTVs, signal quality is very important. Try to at least get s-video cables for everything.

You could alternatively try hunting down one of those Sony Trinitron HD CRTs. Heavy as hell and quite bulky, but they're the best of both worlds. Keep an eye on craigslist, etc.

Old consoles look best on CRTs especially old Sony Trinitons or if you have a big budget a back projection TV.
2 + 3 = 23

What is the best TV I can buy brand new in a retail store today, such as a Best Buy or other similar store?

How come when I watch playthroughs or walkthroughs of NES games on youtube they look so crystal clear?  What are they playing their games on?

Exactly, the only way to get an NES looking like that clear is to do some heavy modifications.

Sadly even if you do the RGB mod with the Playchoice-10 PPU, you'll still end up with slightly off colors, so it STILL won't look as good as those emulated playthroughs.

the other way to do it without an emulator is correctly placing your camera right in front of the tv and record he footage. some retro video game reviewers do that, like
james rolfe "the angry video game nerd". here's a  video on how he makes the episodes (not sure if he mentions it in the video).
some other people do that same thing to keep it legit instead of using emulators. pat the nes punk does that as well.

Or you can have a video input on your video card on your computer or even video editing equipment. However, that's not what they were talking about. Pointing the camera at the television is going to look like crap. He wanted to know why certain videos on Youtube looked so clear.
