Even UPS ground would cost less. That number is calculated by information entered by the seller. They can put in whatever they want to inflate the shipping.

Standard post cannot be printed online, so you'd have to pay for postage at the post office, and that alone keeps me from offering it on eBay. Not to mention that it's not trackable, so you're sorta fucking yourself in the ass by using it. Pretty much ANY paypal claim against you will be found in the buyer's favor if you cannot provide tracking. No thanks.
UPS is all based on travel distance, so you can't definitively say what that would cost unless you can provide package size/weight and 2 zip codes.
USPS prices have gone up a LOT this past year. They let themselves fall into a permanent cycle of loss for the last 20 years and all of a sudden decided that that wasn't working for them, so prices got adjusted accordingly to compensate. Government planning at its finest.
edit: Looking at the shipping location and a random zip code in Utah that I picked for the destination, it looks like $14.20 for standard post and $21.20 for priority based on a 5lb box. I would gather he's entered 5lbs as the weight based on the estimated price as per ebay's calculator shipped to me versus the USPS.com calculator, which game me the same price when I used 5lbs as the weight ($8.85 to Cleveland, OH). It just costs a lot to ship stuff anymore.

Personally, I'll wait a few more days and save some money. Also, I've bought consoles on eBay. Not one has arrived via Priority mail. They're overcharging for shipping. Plain and simple.

I know what you're trying to say, but he's offering Expedited Shipping not Parcel Post. Sellers try to protect themselves from those scammers that allege their games were received damaged and demand a refund.
So no, I don't see overcharging, is just that he's not offering a cheaper shipping option.

Yep, same reason I don't. I don't want to go to the post office either. However, I've been looking for a specific model 1 Genesis on eBay to mod. In my search I found someone selling three busted model 1s, but they were only asking $18 for shipping. Now, that I can understand. Then again, maybe they're under estimating and they're going to eat it on shipping. I've shipped stuff recently that weighed more than five pounds and I didn't pay $15 to ship them. One of them went to Michigan. Then again, you're right. There are a lot of variables to take into account.

See, but that's not what I'm saying. What I've had happen to me are people charging, and listing it as expedited shipping, but shipping it via parcel post. So, they're pocketing the money and over charging for shipping. I'm not accusing him of doing that. I'm just saying it's happened to me, more than once and makes me very hesitant to bid on these auctions anymore. I suppose all I can do, is vent my frustration though the feedback system.
