why? they sell legal paper at walmart

too bad they don't sell legal size glossy paper at Wal-mart. Or anywhere else for that matter.

I WAY prefer printing on matte paper.  This is what I use and recommend to everyone.

It seems pricey, but when you do the math, it's actually quite affordable considering that this is nearly top of the line paper.  100 sheets will yield 200 UGC covers and 300 DS covers when trimmed down to sheets 8.5x13 and 6x13 inches in size respectively.  That's .30 for a UGC cover and .20 for DS covers.  Do it!

I order gloss A4 photo paper on eBay. Do enough hunting and you can find some one willing to ship to the US for cheap

Semi-gloss is best, in my opinion. It looks closest to the original slips you'd find in DVD based games.

I've always been hesitant to the idea of buying bigger paper and cutting it down for my printer. Not sure why. You really think matte is better than semi-gloss?

It's not that it's "better", but rather my preference.  Less sheen means less reflection.  There's really no reason for any gloss when the art is already covered by a gloss sleeve.  There are great options in gloss and semi-gloss/satin as well.

Don't let the whole cutting thing bog you down.  You're already cutting the covers once printed, so what's one more cut per print gonna hurt?  Plus, you get way more covers for your buck when you purchase this way.  Check the math on what I posted versus some middle of the road legal-sized stuff.  The super nice stuff almost always ends up being actually cheaper than the legal sized stuff.  Not to mention that there are NO top-notch photo papers in legal size because it's, well, legal size.  Won't find a lot of artists and photographers looking to print on legal size


Here's the quick and dirty when deciding between gloss and matte. 

Matte = richer colors & crisper images
Gloss = darker blacks & lots of coating options that make the artwork a lot more durable

If you start with one don't switch half way thought like I did.  It is noticeable when they are on the shelf.

Unless what you started with was total crap and totally wanna start over, then the difference will be very noticeable

yeah it was crappy paper, I was using standard 8x11 office paper. The stuff was so thin I am suprised it didnt jam.   Ill post a pic when I get home.  Also I learned how to set my printer to match the paper.  That really helps the image print quality with my printer.  Also I have some older UGCs that are more cloudy.  

and I wish I would have used 8.5"x14" legal sized paper, so that I wouldn't have had a small gap on the front.

 Also I dont cut the edge off the image. I just re size the image.  but there is still a gap with 8.5 X11 glossy

I know the math checks out, and I know legal photo paper is just a fantasy. I guess I'll look into it. Not right now though. Maybe after my next couple of paychecks.
