Some people like to spend high dollars on the stuff they like, so what? They're not hurting you and it's no different from people buying prenium ink and paper to print worthless covers(nothing bad with that either, I printed many too). As long as you're not speaking of retail accurate repro boxes/labels they will leave you alone. Why can't we all get along? --- End quote --- I'm just noticing your post, so forgive the late reply. Not all of the members at that site are dicks, but there's a pretty large majority who act like elitist pricks. Many of them have been known to hoard rare games which drives up the value for everyone else, then they throw their extra copies up on Ebay for insane prices. They also use the VGA grading company, who are a total scam, to try and inflate the value of their games. "Look, my game is sealed in an acrylic case and some company with no regulated guidelines or sanctioned rules say the box edges are totally clean with no dings, my game is now worth 20 times more!". And a lot of them, literally, buy or try to acquire super-rare games, just so they can sell them amongst the other elitist collectors on the site who then put them up on Ebay at extortion prices, such as many of the ridiculous auctions that get posted here. Like I said, it's not every member there, but there's definitely a large mentality of superiority amongst many members of that site and it just makes the entire site and anyone who participates in it seem sleazy to me. Obviously, I can't prove if it hurts the hobby or not, but it definitely doesn't help having tons of people from that site, listing ridiculous, asinine auctions with inflated prices. It makes average, every day people see shit like that and assume every game they own is worth hundreds of dollars. Then, you've got other uninformed people listing all of their games for inflated prices. Not to mention, even if Joe-Average does some research and sees that his games, technically, aren't worth that much, having Ebay auctions, constantly, posted with these inflated prices still sends ripples through different price tracking apps and around the gaming community in general. These douchebags continually post games at these insane prices and it starts to become the reality and norm and people just accept it and then game prices, in general, continue to rise at an accelerated rate, because the hobby is deemed "expensive or super-valuable". It almost attaches a stigma to retro gaming and people expect it to be pricey, when most games really shouldn't be. |

You can't blame the seller for selling at a high price if there's a buyer who's willing pay that for it. Simple supply and demand. If you had to sell your collection for some reason, are you going to seek out the lowest bidders, as they can't afford to pay a lot, or will you get what you can and go with the high end. I know which end of the market I'd be aiming for. |
