I hope you're wrong but i bet you're right.

If they are abundant or relatively abundant my plan was to buy 5 of them and 3 extra NES controllers. 1 Console + 3 controllers for me (I want 4 total NES / Wii Classic Controllers). The other 4 consoles would be Christmas presents for my 4 siblings.

I am already working on backup plans for them as I don't see these things as an easy find because Nintendo is ... well Nintendo afterall

I've said it before, but I will only buy one if I can walk into a store any time after release and pick one up at normal price.

I will not pre-ordre one.
I will not wait in line or camp out in front of a store for one.
I will not buy from a reseller.

If those end up being the only way to get it, I just won't have one.  I have an original NES with a BLW and an Everdrive N8.  I can reliably play any NES game on original hardware, so I don't need this outside of the "it would be cool have have" factor. 

Regardless, I do want a few controllers.  For some reason, I don't see those being hard to get.  Not too worried there.

Same here, I never tend to buy anything on.pre order, neither from a reseller. If can't buy it at original price I won't buy it
