The short version...

This guy (Atwood) is a long time collector and has a ridiculous collection of sealed in box games, including several shipping boxes (6 games in each) that are still sealed.  He enjoys the hobby and doesn't really brag about his collection.

Lately, some of the top dogs of collecting have been doing shady dealings (such as buying several copies of rare games) in order to drive up the value of games like Stadium Events, Bonk, Dinosaur Peak, etc. Atwood has called these guys out before and basically feels games shouldn't be an investment.  At least not when you're buying 20 copies of an already rare game so you can bump up the resell price.

Having had enough, Atwood stated that he will sell some of his mighty collection - flooding the market with these super rare and expensive games.  Now "flooded" is a generous term, but when only, say, 15 sealed copies of Stadium Events are known to exist, and this guy introduces 12 more into the market, the value on this game (as well as the open box version) is going to drop considerably.  It will still cost a fortune, but significantly less than what they are going for now, meaning flippers may not make back the thousands they invested.

As for why he has been banned, my guess is it was because he pissed off the elitists who run the NA forums.  I think one of them is someone Atwood has called out in the past for this type of stuff.

Anyway, I don't know if the guy is a hero or an asshole, but he sounds awesome, and I would love to check out this guy's house just to see this stuff with my own eyes.

You pretty much got it.  Although he was given a 2 week temporary ban due to trolling.  After he finished what he was trying to "accomplish" he started leaving a bunch of trolling posts.  I think he was just trying to piss off some of the people that had rubbed him the wrong way during the last few weeks of this story unfolding.  Honestly, I don't think he cares much as I doubt his presence will be much more going forward then it was in the past few years (which was limited to none).
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Speaking of Stadium Events, this auction seems like it could be shady:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/141984767559?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Why is someone listing a Stadium Events along with a super common game like 10 Yard Fight?  Not only that, he describes the listing like it's just another game.  Does he really not know Stadium Events is super valuable?  I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a reproduction cart.

If I was a serious buyer of SE, I would want to see a picture of the board inside the cartridge.  I can't believe the price is so high based only on a vague description and single photo.

I'd say he doesn't know it's value. Just from the pictures, it doesn't look like a repro. Ebay does offer a Money Back Guarantee in the event of a fraudulent item. What is weird is that he's selling a few other games and this is the only auction that's a lot. The stuff is sells is pretty random except for the police junk.

I actually sent him a message for this auction like 4 or 5 days before the auctions end requesting more pictures and such and he never responded.  On one hand I think it is very shady, but on the other it could just have been the auction for me to go for to get stadium events at a "reasonable" price point.  Also as Segamer pointed out Ebay does have a money back guarantee which almost made me place a bid on it but decided to pass.

I can understand about Ebay's money back guarantee, but I'd still be very skeptical.  He's simply showing a Stadium Events cartridge, nowhere does he claim it's authentic.  He could simply claim he's selling exactly what's pictured, which is a Stadium Events cartridge.  Authenticity should be implied, but I wouldn't spend $4000+ on such a vague listing.

I hate sellers like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/282041512706?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Why does he show a photo of a complete in box game, then describe it as "cartridge only, no box or manual"?  He also lists it as very good condition, which requires a box and manual.  I messaged him as soon as it was listed, but he never responded.  Someone else ended up buying it.  I would have bought it if I had confirmation that it was complete.

Not eBay, but close, I guess. What happened to this store?

http://www.dkoldies.com/

I remember it being a good store couple years back, but the prices are ridiculous. Most popular games are a good $10 or more above other stores, let alone the stupid marketing trick of 'everything is on sale' thing, where all prices have an even higher price crossed out next to it. Super Mario World is $50.00 $39.99, SSB Melee is $100.00 $79.99

Huh . . .

This and Lukie Games, both.  Prices have gone up the past few years, which is a given, but man.  They were never THIS blatant about their overpricing.  In 2010 I  remember getting Gargoyle's Quest 2 from them for about $15, which was about $5 more than stores at the time.  But now, the markup is just nuts.

What you prefer to pay for this two  (if you have the game you can sell it  ;) )

TMNT for $23 the game and box (cheapest I can find)
http://m.ebay.com/itm/Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Nintendo-NES-in-box-/201589043344?nav=SEARCH

And TMNT II for $30 the game and box (cheapest I can find)
http://m.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-NES-Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-2-The-Arcade-Game-Game-Works-Tested-/252284577738?nav=SEARCH
Total of $53

Or pay this guy $50 for two UGC with TCP covers, the price that he assumed he can charge for the value of the original cib games.

Love to see this kind of morons, is a f*+%&^n UGC with a print cover, is not the real thing to charge in base of the cost of the game
